We knew 2026 wasn’t going to be a quiet one — but it’s barely out of the gate and already setting the pace! The year kicked off in Davos, where we hosted the 9th Annual Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC) Blockchain Central Davos. Beyond the programming, what made the week truly special was the time spent with our wonderful GBBC team & members. A huge thank you to our speakers, who brought thoughtfulness, honesty and real substance to the conversations, and to everyone who joined us throughout the week in the GBBC Lounge. It became exactly what we hoped it would be: a place for open discussion, candid exchanges, and a rare chance to step away from the noise and actually talk. Next year will be our 10th year at Davos! Those themes carried straight through to London last week, where I had the pleasure of chairing City & Financial Global’s excellent TOK26. The shift in this industry is now unmistakable. Conversations around stablecoins, tokenised deposits, institutional infrastructure and regulation have moved firmly from “if” to “how”, with banks, crypto-native firms, policymakers and regulators increasingly engaging constructively with one another. And the momentum hasn't stopped there. Our CEO, Sandra Ro 🇺🇦, was in Doha last week at #WebSummitQatar, where she signed an MOU on behalf of GBBC with the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC) Authority — stay tuned for updates on this. And we’re not done yet. On the 25th February, GBBC Members are invited to the Digital Markets and Digital Money APPG evidence session at the House of Lords (please contact me directly if you'd like to attend). Then on the 26th February, GBBC will be hosting our London conference with Clifford Chance, bringing together speakers from the SEC, FCA, AMF, ESMA and the Deutsche Bundesbank, alongside a number of our industry members, to continue these critical discussions around regulation, market structure and real-world implementation. En route to #Doha #Qatar 🇶🇦 but I wanted to provide a #DAVOS2026 🇨🇭recap: IMO, this year was the most consequential Davos in the 9 years I have attended: a mashup of world leaders, CEOs, civic society orgs & entrepreneurs in a quiet town (which happens to be considered the highest elevation city in Europe at 1,560m or 5,120 ft above sea level 🤓) WHY? (Not political commentary) 🚩 post WWII world order ‘realignment’ & ‘reprioritization’ to a multi-polar world 🌎 => shifting bilateral & regional trade deals, massive opportunities & dislocations 🚩 USD reserve currency status at risk & yet, DIGITAL forms of equivalent USD dominate at 99% of market… 🚩Blockchain as next gen fin svcs infra is in implementation phase - risk mgmt & mitigation key 🚩 Enterprise level AI implementation remains messy but growing 🚩 Robot attendees, (see photo 🤖 ), I suspect more to come…make sure to put proper boots 🥾 on yours 😉 (can someone get me a goat 🐐 robot pls?)
