Oregon becomes the latest state to modernize its commercial code. Senate Bill 167, recently signed into law by Governor Tina Kotek, updates Oregon’s Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) to recognize crypto and digital assets as collateral in commercial transactions. The bill aligns Oregon with the UCC 2022 Amendments, clarifying how digital assets can be legally recognized, securely managed, and transferred in financial agreements. This update supports greater confidence in the use of digital assets and promotes adoption of emerging technologies. Thank you to U.S. Blockchain Coalition (USBC)’s Oregon representatives, including Brigitte Piniewski MD, Jeff Gaus, and Daniel McMorris for their continued leadership in supporting blockchain policy efforts in Oregon. Global Blockchain Business Council (GBBC), through its U.S. initiative GBBC USA, leads the U.S. Blockchain Coalition (USBC), which is focused on advancing education around UCC Amendments, especially Article 12, to drive awareness and distribute resources to interested parties that are looking to share the benefits with state and federal policymakers.
