The move toward digital, machine-readable reporting for the U.S. municipal bond market is gaining momentum, and GLEIF welcomes this direction. In its response to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), XBRL US, Inc. emphasized that the tools and standards for digital reporting already exist and are accessible: “Open-source tools for preparing structured reports are already available at little or no cost, while commercial options typically range from $1,000 to $1,500 per year. Legal Entity Identifiers (LEIs) cost as little as $39 annually.” The message is clear: ✅ Transparency and standardization need not be costly. ✅ The foundation for digital reporting is already in place. With LEIs providing a trusted, globally recognized way to identify issuers and counterparties, regulators, investors, and taxpayers alike can benefit from greater clarity and accountability in public finance. Enabling global identity. Protecting digital trust. The guardian of LEIs and vLEIs.
Info
A reliable cross-border identification system. We uphold a comprehensive record of universal credentials confirmed by accredited issuers assigned to specific territories. Once they've verified the original essential information for an applicant, LEI issuers distribute unique codes within their given regions. These are then logged in the GLEIF data bank to keep an up-to-date chain of traceable credentials. LEIs remain trustworthy regardless of the issuing territory because this root authentication, coupled with an accepted global standardization, reinforces a reliable network of organizational identification across borders. The network underpins LEIs and supports vLEIs – a digital ID secured at the source, permitting software and devices to automatically and cryptographically verify an organization's identity. The value of GLEIF lies in transparency. Our global LEI system empowers people, businesses, and governments to make safer decisions, such as with whom to buy from, borrow money, or rely on to administer vaccines - or who to do business with. We want the LEI and vLEI identification standards to be accessible for all so they are entirely affordable, and our data bank is free to access. We want as many markets, individuals, and communities as possible to benefit from trusted universal credentials. 🇨🇭 Switzerland’s narrow yes to the e-ID marks a turning point for digital trust. Behind it lies SWIYU (Swiss IdentitY for YoU), a state-operated, decentralized infrastructure built on W3C Verifiable Credentials and OpenID for Verifiable Credentials. It enables verifiable, privacy-preserving digital proofs for diplomas and driving licenses. The next step? Digital identities for organizations, with the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) as a foundation for trust and interoperability. A clear signal that digital identity can be publicly governed, open, and globally connected. Faster, safer instant euro payments, built on trust GLEIF welcomes the European Commission’s new Instant Payments Regulation, which makes instant euro payments a reality across Europe. This milestone ensures that money can move within seconds, 24/7, while introducing Verification of Payee (VoP) to protect people and businesses from fraud and payment errors. As the Commission notes in its press release, VoP helps confirm that the payee’s name matches their account details, adding a crucial layer of security: 👉 https://lnkd.in/dKZz8YJf At GLEIF, we see this as a significant step toward a more transparent, interoperable, and trusted payments ecosystem. The Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) strengthens these efforts by linking verified organizational identities to payment accounts — ensuring confidence and clarity in every transaction. ✔️ Instant, around-the-clock payments ✔️ Free verification of payee for fraud prevention ✔️ Stronger transparency through verified digital identity Learn more about how the LEI supports payee verification and regulatory compliance: 🔗 EACT - European Association of Corporate Treasurers: Payee Verification with the LEI – https://lnkd.in/eJiTqCGm 🎧 GLEIF Video: The Cornerstone of Cross-Border Compliance – https://lnkd.in/ekBQy-HK #GLEIF #LEI #InstantPayments #VoP #LEI #DigitalIdentity #Compliance #FinancialServices #EURegulation #PaymentsInnovation

Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) hat dies direkt geteilt
🏛️ Missing architecture; improving access to finance 🇬🇧 At yesterday’s ICC United Kingdom conference, Deepesh Patel, Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of Trade Treasury Payments (TTP), moderated a discussion on what it will take to move from legal reform to real digital trade infrastructure. With insights from Nuria Vegas (Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF), Parvaiz Dalal (Citi), Naresh Aggarwal (Association of Corporate Treasurers), and Neil Shonhard (MonetaGo), the session tackled the missing rails beneath the UK’s new Electronic Trade Documents Act (ETDA), and why invoice registries, digital identity, and public digital infrastructure must now come together. As ICC UK’s Next-Generation Trade Corridors report highlights, digitalising trade could unlock $10 trillion+ in efficiency gains. Yet the UK still lags behind India and Singapore, where live registries have unlocked $100 billion in SME working capital and boosted liquidity by 220%. ✅ The tech is here. ✅The law is here. 💡 What’s missing is scale, trust, and collective will. We were delighted to be media partners at this event. #UKtrade #digitaltrade #SMEs #workingcapital | Harriet Wadsworth | Chris Southworth

Trade is going digital, but trust must move with it. A new report from ICC United Kingdom, "Next-generation Trade Corridors: Building Digital Trade Superhighways," explores how verified digital identity can accelerate cross-border trade, and features insights from GLEIF on how the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) and verifiable LEI (vLEI) are enabling that trust. The findings are clear: ⚫️ In the STDFIX pilot, digital identity and document interoperability cut costs by 70% and processing time by 90%. ⚫️ With LEIs integrated into digital trade documents like the electronic Bill of Lading (eBL), efficiency and assurance can coexist at scale. Digital corridors aren't just about technology; they're about identity, authenticity, and trust you can verify. 📘 Download the report: https://lnkd.in/eQdqDNpR #LEI #vLEI #DigitalIdentity #GLEIF #TradeTech #RegTech

Global LEI Growth Continues: Q3 2025 Snapshot Momentum for the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) keeps building. In Q3 2025, over 81,000 new LEIs were issued, bringing the total to 2.86 million, a 2.9% growth rate even amid seasonal slowdowns. Adoption is being fueled by both regulation and market-led demand: 🇮🇳 India — 9.3% growth, supported by national mandates for large corporate borrowers 🇱🇻 Latvia — 5.4% growth driven by the EU’s DORA regulation 🇱🇹 Lithuania — 4.5% growth under the same framework 🇦🇪 United Arab Emirates — 5.3% growth through strong local initiatives 🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia — 4.8% growth reflecting expanding market engagement Renewals rose for the third straight quarter to 57.1%, signaling stronger engagement and long-term trust in the LEI. Beyond compliance, the LEI is becoming essential for digital trade, ESG reporting, and cross-border payments, driving transparency and interoperability across the global economy.
