The Loan Market Association (LMA) and the ICMA - International Capital Market Association have partnered with IFC - International Finance Corporation to host the inaugural Loan & Capital Markets Africa Summit in Cape Town on February 25 and 26, 2026. The event will bring together issuers, investors, policymakers, regulators, DFIs, banks, and corporates for high-level discussions, networking and practical industry exchange. The summit will explore Africa’s capital market transformation—deepening bond and loan markets, fostering local currency issuance, and aligning finance with sustainable growth. On 21st October ICMA colleagues Georgina Jarratt and Tom Healey were in New York for the FINOS Open Source in Finance Forum (OSFF), where they presented on how using the Common Domain Model, the first truly open-source domain model and API for the financial industry, will improve resiliency, reduce operational friction, and decrease counterparty risks.

ICMA Women's Network Ireland hosted a fantastic evening of discussion and networking at A&L Goodbody LLP in Dublin. Industry speakers explored how mentors and sponsors play essential roles in driving personal and career growth. Following introductory remarks from IWN Ireland representative Sinead O'Connor of A&L Goodbody LLP and Katie Kelly, Global Lead and co-founder of the IWN, our panel of experts took to the stage. Led in conversation by moderator Christine Peters, CFA of TD Securities, the audience heard insights from Orla McTernan, Co-Chair of AIB’s “Mentor Her” programme, Noeleen Meehan, Partner at A&L Goodbody LLP and Fran Watson, Managing Director, Head of the UK, Europe and APAC Transaction Advisory Group and Co-Head of the Global Transaction Advisory Group at TD Securities. Key takeaways of the discussion include: 💡 A mentor is not someone who teaches you the skills, but someone who makes you realise you already have them. 💡 Say you’re facing a wall. ℹ️ Last week, on the sidelines of the IIF Annual Members meeting in Washington DC, ICMA - International Capital Market Association and Swiss Re hosted an exclusive high-level breakfast roundtable that brought together senior policymakers, market practitioners, and institutional investors to address one of the most urgent challenges facing the global financial system: market fragmentation. Global capital markets are facing accelerating fragmentation, shaped by geopolitical realignment, diverging regulatory regimes, complex infrastructure, and emerging currency blocs. These fractures threaten growth, increase inflationary pressures, reduce liquidity, and hinder optimal capital allocation. Importantly, this long-term shift also poses fundamental implications for how insurance risks are priced, transferred, and absorbed. Featuring insights from International Organization of Securities Commissions - IOSCO, this roundtable explored the economic and systemic implications of fragmentation and identify actionable strategies to maintain market connectivity and consistency. Discussions drew on the respective expertise of ICMA and Swiss Re in debt capital markets and re/insurance to address how to preserve cross-border capital flows and risk-sharing mechanisms by deliberating: ✴️ How global and regional actors can preserve the confidence and connectivity needed for capital to flow efficiently and risks to be shared widely across borders; ✴️ The importance of standardisation in debt markets and infrastructure financing facilitate and unlock long-term capital from institutional investors; and ✴️ Resilience-building through insurance-linked investment strategies and catastrophe bonds Thank you to everyone who contributed to this timely conversation — in particular Jérôme Jean Haegeli and IOSCO Secretary General Rodrigo Buenaventura.
