Bleibt gespannt! #miromico #intec #lorawan #mioty #partnership #authorizedpartner

For the second year in a row, I was lucky enough to catch Liliane Paradise from Miromico at IoT Sparks ✨, and once again, she did not disappoint. I loved her talk last year, and this one was just as good because she has an incredible way of explaining very #grounded, #practical #ideas. And one more time, these are concepts that don't just apply to new technologies but, when you think about it, fit just about any new business model. She focused on an idea that often scares us: #failure. But instead of framing it as an endpoint, she presented it as an unavoidable and crucial part of the innovation process . It's a great reminder that even when you're doing things right, failure is part of the journey. The Iceberg Metaphor: To explain this, Liliane Paradise used a visual metaphor: failure is an iceberg. On the surface, all we see is the scary stuff: the financial risk, the chaos, the embarrassment... But the real substance is hidden beneath the water: innovation, learning, stress (which also pushes us forward), opportunities, and courage. As one of her slides aptly put it, "Every step forward in technology begins with the courage to try – and sometimes to fail." The 5 Biases That Steer Us Straight into the Iceberg: the best part was how she broke down the most common mistakes. Using clever analogies with LEGO bricks: ➤ Expectation Bias: This happens when we fall in love with the "happy path" and optimize everything for that perfect scenario, forgetting that the real world is chaotic and random. The lesson is clear: we can't be overly optimistic. ➤ Extrapolation Bias : This one's a classic. We assume that what worked in a controlled test environment will work just as well at scale. It's the trap of prioritizing speed over rigorous testing. As she said, extrapolating into the unknown isn't validation; it's buying a ticket for disaster. ➤ Complexity Bias : This occurs when the team gets obsessed with refining and perfecting the product instead of just shipping it. You lose precious time, and the window of opportunity closes. Sometimes, perfect timing beats a perfect design. ➤ Scaling Bias: You can have the most brilliant design in the world, but if you haven't thought about how it's going to be manufactured and industrialized, it's useless. If you can't scale it in the factory, you can't scale it in the market. Simple and direct. ➤ Optimization Bias: This was like the invisible thread connecting all the others. It's the tendency to optimize a single thing (cost, speed, a feature) while losing sight of the impact it has on everything else. In short, the message I'm taking away from Miromico's talk is clear: we need to make peace with failure. Analyzing it through the lens of these biases gives us a roadmap to avoid making the same mistakes again and allows us to use those stumbles as the foundation for building the next generation of IoT solutions that actually work. Thanks Carles Gramage, LORIOT and Liliane Paradise, See you next year

IoT Sparks ✨ 2025 in Valencia brought together an inspiring community of IoT professionals for a day full of ideas, discussions, and new connections. We were proud to have our COO Liliane Paradise contribute to the program with her talk “IoT is Hard: The Biggest Failures and What We’ve Learned.” She shared valuable reflections on the realities of building IoT solutions — what can go wrong, what we’ve learned along the way, and how those lessons continue to shape our approach at Miromico. A big thank you to LORIOT, Julian Studer and Dario Maccarrone for hosting and organizing such a well-curated event that encouraged open exchange and honest conversations about the future of IoT. IoT Is Hard. Harder than most of us initially thought. And yes, we've all heard that 80% of #IoT projects fail in the #pilot phase, but do we know why? Here's what we've learned: IoT is more than just connecting devices. It's all about strategy, scaling, proper planning, and meticulous attention to detail. A minor miscalculation, such as choosing the wrong wireless connectivity or overlooking edge cases in device behavior, can derail an entire deployment. Last year at IoT Sparks ✨2024, our COO, Liliane Paradise, shared our approach to scaling IoT initiatives, from pilot to full deployment. The key insight? Plan for scalability and budget time and resources to account for the unknowns from day one. This year, we're going even deeper. Liliane's talk "IoT is Hard: The Biggest Mistakes and What We've Learned" reveals the unknown unknowns that caused real project failures with practical frameworks to help you find them before they find you. You'll learn: The critical questions most teams skip during planning How to stress-test assumptions before they become expensive problems Red flags that signal a pilot won't scale (with a few war stories along the way) Join us at IoT Sparks in #Valencia on October 7th, 2025.
