🚀 Getting a sense of scale! Our propulsion team has been hard at work designing the first iteration of our Thrust Chamber Assembly. To get a sense of scale and verify basic interfaces, they have printed a 1:1 mockup in plastic. Of course, this is a mockup of the atmospheric version of our engine, which does not include the large nozzle extension that we will use on the vacuum version of our engine. Hardware-in-the-loop testing is starting! 🕹️ Our software and GNC team members have been hard at work on the Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) setup that connects our simulation to functional hardware. A dedicated computer runs the vehicle simulation, the GNC board executes the algorithms in real time, commands are sent to the thrust vector control actuators, and actuator positions feed back into the simulation, closing the loop. This test stand lets us validate our infrastructure, interfaces, and edge cases safely before moving further in the design of our GNC algorithms and GNC computer. First PCB successfully tested! 🛠️ Last month, we completed the design of the first prototype for our main board. Just a few weeks later, the board has been manufactured and assembled and is now undergoing functionality tests. This first prototype allows our team to quickly assess the performance of the board before moving onto the next iteration. It also allows us to start testing the software that will run on this board. Using a triple modular redundant (TMR) architecture allows for single fault tolerance on the avionics of our kickstage. ⚡ Reaching hardware tests this early in development helps us move faster into the next design cycle and better understand hardware limitations. 🔄 #PCB #hardware #development #iterating #avionics

Ignition achieved! 🔥 Following the catalyst tests that we ran on our stand, we quickly moved on to firing the prototype of the igniter for our main engine. This igniter runs on HTP and RP-1, the same propellant that we intend to use for our main engine. In this campaign, we’re validating the igniter concept and building operational experience with the propellants.
