From team sessions 👥 to rollercoasters 🎢 , our global meetup had it all! 500+ Proton team members from around the world came together to connect, learn, and re-energize around one mission: building a better internet. What makes Proton so special? ‘The mission’ is the answer for many of us, but after last week’s company-wide meetup I’d also add ‘the humans who work relentlessly behind the mission’ 💜 Shout out to the people team (particularly Dorota Dudek and Reynante Gapasin) who made Proton Quest both productive and fun - a balance they struck perfectly 🚀 📸 Selfie 1: team building quest in PortAventura 📸 Selfie 2: with the Marketing GOAT Irina Marcopol who led the Plenary sessions with vibrant energy and reminded us all of our special Proton community 🫶

Does Discord delete your data after verifying your age? Probably, and we hope so. But do the vendors they outsource additional checks and appeals to follow the same philosophy? Not at all. On September 20th, one of Discord’s third-party customer support vendors was hacked. Attackers gained access to user information, including names, email addresses, IP addresses, and government ID images submitted during age verification appeals. Discord quickly reassured users that it wasn't hacked, but a trusted vendor was. Does that actually make a difference? Well, not to the people whose passports and IDs are now sitting in a hacker’s data dump. Governments keep pushing for laws that expose more people, collect more IDs, and create new risks in the name of “safety.” Ironically, many people who gave up their information to "make the internet safer for everyone" are not themselves protected. The takeaway? Basically, the less data you give away, the safer you are. Use tools that don’t ask for your ID, don’t track you, and don’t build profiles around you. Proton VPN doesn't collect any personal information and lets you say no to poorly implemented "safety" laws. Also, it’s free 👉 protonvpn.com

A new “AI selfie with your younger self” trend has gone viral. It looks innocent, and even heartwarming, but it raises serious privacy concerns. When you upload both your current and childhood photos to an AI tool: 1. You’re handing over highly personal biometric data — your face, at two different ages. 2. Those photos can be stored, analyzed, and even used to train models without your consent. 3. They can also feed profiling, deepfakes, or targeted marketing. AI nostalgia might feel harmless, but once your data is online, you lose control over how it’s used. Want to learn more about how AI like ChatGPT handles your data, and how to protect yourself? I’ve just spent an inspiring week at Proton Quest in PortAventura, our global meetup. It was such a great opportunity to connect with colleagues from around the world in person! The week was full of exchanging ideas, aligning on where we’re headed next, and like any company meet up… rollercoasters! The real standout for me, though, was being able to take a step back to reflect on the real impact of our work. In the day-to-day rhythm, I know for myself, it’s so easy to get absorbed in metrics, campaigns, and deadlines. But this week was a powerful reminder that what we do at Proton really matters. Not just for our targets, but for activists, journalists, and everyday people like you and I who rely on privacy to live, work, and speak freely. Zooming out like this really helped me re-energize the “why” behind our work. I’m heading back with fresh perspective and renewed motivation. 🔒💜🚀

Head of Social & Community | Proton Marketing Hire #1 | Storytelling | Brand Awareness | Content Strategy

Still buzzing from Proton Quest, our 3rd global meetup hosted at PortAventura World this year. 💜 I had the privilege to moderate our main plenary for a second time and present my team’s impact alongside an incredible lineup of Proton experts. I’m honored, energized, and deeply grateful to everyone who made this event possible. Special shoutout to my colleagues Dorota Dudek and Reynante Gapasin for being absolute superstars! Beyond our 550+ brilliant teammates building an internet that serves people (not profit), this year we welcomed inspiring external voices. The conversations, masterfully moderated by my colleague Alex Miller (ex-VICE Media), featured: → an inspiring panel discussion with Carissa Véliz (Author & Ethics Professor, Proton Foundation Board Member), Ray Wong (Hong Kong activist) and Nicholas Koumjian (Head, UN Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar) on why privacy matters in a unstable world → a motivating interview with Guillaume Pousaz (Founder & CEO) on his journey scaling Checkout.com from startup to a fintech powerhouse I can’t shake how far Proton has come and how much further we can go. Let’s keep raising the bar together. 🚀 P.S. Proton’s mission is far from over and we're hiring! Head over to our careers page and get on this wild ride with me!
