The EU-funded WATERUN project (2022–2026) addresses the complexities of Urban Water Runoff Management by developing innovative, practical solutions based on Water-Sensitive Urban Design. With 14 partners in 8 countries, and pilot cities including Aarhus, Santiago de Compostela, and Amman, the project aims to develop tools for the reduction of diffuse pollution. 🌧️🌱

Within the project, seecon leads the co-creation process, ensuring that technical innovations are informed by the needs of their future users. We have organized and facilitated stakeholder committees and interactive workshops, involving municipal authorities, water utilities, regulators, and researchers. Through local and international collaboration, we’ve created spaces where developers and stakeholders can jointly shape the tools that will ultimately be implemented on the ground. 🛠️👥

Over the course of the project, we’ve come to realize that co-creation is both highly valuable and demanding. It requires time, commitment, and early budget planning—ideally starting when writing the proposal. We've also learned that clearly articulating the added value of co-creation, combined with tailored messaging, is essential to maintain partner and stakeholder engagement over time. Perhaps most importantly, we’ve seen the power of trust: leveraging the existing relationships of local partners has been key to meaningfully involving third-party stakeholders and building strong, context-specific solutions. 🔍💬
