Stablecoins in Switzerland 🇨🇭: Where Do We Stand? As stablecoins continue their global rise 📈 – now surpassing USD 250B in market cap – the question "What’s Switzerland’s position?" is more relevant than ever. 🔍 At the Swiss Financial Innovation Desk (FIND), it’s one of the questions we’re asked most often. And rightly so: between Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority FINMA’s 2024 guidance, the upcoming federal proposal on innovative business models, and international frameworks like MiCAR and the GENIUS Act, Switzerland is navigating a fast-evolving regulatory landscape. 💡 In this article, we: 1️⃣ Explain why stablecoins are needed – and by whom 2️⃣ Explore MiCAR & the GENIUS Act as regulatory accelerators 3️⃣ Examine illicit use – the flip side of the (stable)coin 4️⃣ Highlight how compliance-by-design could shape the future 5️⃣ Argue for global regulatory convergence over fragmentation 🗝️ One key takeaway? Stablecoins aren’t here to replace cash. They’re here to give people – and businesses – choice. 📄 Read the full article by Eva Selamlar-Leuthold: The State of Stablecoins in Switzerland – available in our library 📚.
