Our article titled “Perceptions of Digitalisation and Cyber Security: Impacts on Organisational Practices through the NIST Cybersecurity Framework” has been published in the Journal of Decision Systems (Taylor & Francis Group)! In this study, we examined cybersecurity perceptions and organizational practices during the digital transformation process, using the NIST Cybersecurity Framework v2, which was released in 2024, as our foundation. Insights from 124 professionals across various sectors reveal a significant gap between perceived awareness and actual readiness. The cyclical structure of the updated NIST CSF also highlights how it can enhance organizational cybersecurity maturity. As digitalization accelerates with AI and IoT, the need for proactive and adaptive strategies becomes increasingly important. “No one wants Cyber GRC.” That’s what I’ve heard in every fresher interview lately. Everyone’s excited about red teaming, app sec, SOC monitoring — and rightly so. These are brilliant, high-impact areas. But when it comes to Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC), the energy drops. It’s dismissed as “non-technical,” “just paperwork,” or “too easy.” Here’s what I’ve seen over the years: It’s the missing patch — not the hacker’s brilliance — that exposes sensitive data. It’s a weak policy — not a zero-day — that gets exploited. It’s oversight gaps — not just external threats — that lead to multi-crore penalties. GRC is where cyber risk meets business risk. And in today’s world, that’s where the real game is. I have seen and helped design risk frameworks that enabled digital banks to launch securely. I have worked on access governance that stopped potential fraud before it could occur. And I have seen solid GRC programs save companies from regulatory heat — without writing a single line of code. This post is not to say one path is better than the other. It’s simply to say: don’t brush off GRC. Because.. It gives you a front-row seat to how organizations run. It builds your understanding of people, processes, technology, and risk — together. It shapes you into a security professional who can see both the forest and the trees. ## 🧠 The CISO’s Relentless Vigilance—and the Price of Neglect Amid mounting administrative demands and organizational underappreciation, CISOs remain resolute. They operate not as checkbox clerks, but as defenders of trust, precision, and resilience. While regulatory compliance is a necessary part of the job, true security requires relentless technical oversight—something CISOs deliver daily. They research emerging threats, reverse-engineer attack vectors, and connect with global peers to exchange hard-won insights. They evaluate security tools not for audit friendliness, but for their ability to withstand real-world exploitation. And all this happens under the pressure of managing coordination meetings, briefing executives, and fending off scope creep from legal and compliance teams. What’s often overlooked is their quiet, round-the-clock commitment to surveillance, telemetry, and analytics. They live in the logs. They hunt in the data. Even when the org sees them as a formality, they never stop safeguarding its digital core. But eventually, that imbalance catches up. 👉 **And then comes the inevitable moment—the CISO leaves.** They move to an organization that sees them not as a scapegoat or administrator, but as the strategic technologist they are. It’s no surprise that high-caliber CISOs rotate often: not out of instability, but in pursuit of impact and respect. Until more companies choose to elevate rather than marginalize these leaders, the pattern will persist—and so will preventable breaches.
