🔬🧪 Ever wonder what goes on in a lab? Here's a quick look at how to perform a MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) assay! The process involves several steps: 1️⃣ First, we prepare a 96-well plate by creating a series of dilutions of an antimicrobial agent. This means each row has a different, decreasing concentration of the drug. 2️⃣ Next, we add a bacterial culture to each well. This allows us to see how the bacteria react to different drug concentrations. 3️⃣ The plate is then placed in an incubator to give the bacteria time to grow. 4️⃣ Finally, we use an imaging reader to analyze the results. We look for the first well in each row where there is no visible bacterial growth—that's the MIC! Developing broadly applicable reference extracellular vesicles expressing horseradish peroxidase: in their latest work, Daniela Waas, Kathrin Gärtner at Eximmium Biotechnologies GmbH and collaborators designed and produced a novel class of reference extracellular vesicles expressing horseradish peroxidase (HRP) to enable simple, sensitive, and reliable EV tracing during isolation and standardization of purification and downstream analysis. Given the growing number of protocols for studying EV biology and clinical relevance, reproducibility and comparability across studies have become increasingly difficult. As a result, diagnostic applications remain inconsistent, largely due to the lack of widely adopted, standardized reference EVs 🔗 https://lnkd.in/ewKNW82Y The authors addressed this gap by introducing HRP+ EVs as a quantitative tool for evaluating EV preparations and establishing robust quality control procedures. These EVs could be readily quantified either through direct HRP activity measurement or via immunodetection of HRP on the vesicle surface. Their study demonstrated that HRP+ EVs enabled accurate quantification of absolute EV numbers in biological and clinical samples, providing a reliable method for normalizing liquid biopsy specimens and improving the consistency of EV-based diagnostics.
