The Asian Quantum Information Science Conference (AQIS ‘25) has officially begun — and this year, it’s hosted for the first time in Hong Kong by the University of Hong Kong.
Opening the conference, Professor Xiang Zhang, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKU, welcomed scientists, scholars, and students from around the world. A leading researcher and a champion of innovation, Prof. Zhang highlighted the global momentum in quantum research — from Europe and the US to China — and reaffirmed HKU’s role as a connector between East and West.
“Science flourishes through exchange and collaboration,” Prof. Zhang said. “Even quantum mechanics, once seen as science fiction, is now the foundation of a high-end global industry.”
“Asia is rising as a key player in quantum science — and HKU is at the forefront,” he added.
Hosting AQIS '25 reflects HKU’s strength in frontier science and its commitment to supporting the next generation of researchers. From world-class research in quantum sensing and information to deep international collaborations, HKU continues to shape the future of science as Asia’s Global University.
