FnO-812: Need to enable additional

Hi,

We are experiencing the following error in our Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse:

FnO-812: Need to enable additional indexes in your Finance and Operations environment. Visit aka.ms/SynapseLinkErrors to fix.

The error doesn't point to a specific table, but several FnO tables that were syncing correctly are now showing errors. This started happening suddenly, and I'm trying to understand:

  • What exactly causes the FnO-812 error?

  • Could it be related to a recent database refresh or restore in our UAT environment?

  • How can I resolve this error and re-enable the affected tables?

  • Is there a way to prevent this from happening again in future environment refreshes?

Any guidance or shared experience would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi @Karen_Mendez2,
Thank you for using Microsoft Fabric Community Forum!

Firstly:

The FnO-812 error means that the required indexes for Azure Synapse Link are not enabled in your Finance and Operations (FnO) environment. These indexes are essential for efficient and reliable data extraction from FnO tables to Synapse. This error usually happens if the necessary indexes for certain tables haven’t been created or enabled, or if changes like a database refresh or reset have removed or disabled them.

For the second one:
Yes, a recent database refresh or restore in the UAT environment can remove custom or system-generated indexes needed by Synapse Link. These actions may also reset configurations that had previously enabled those indexes, which is a common reason for the FnO-812 error after environment refreshes.

To fix the error, please follow these steps: Go to the Microsoft troubleshooting guide at:
Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse trouble shooting guide - Power Apps | Microsoft Learn
Next:

Usually, this means running the "Enable Entity Indexes for Synapse Link" batch job in your Finance and Operations (FnO) environment. Go to System Administration > Setup > Azure Synapse Link > Enable Entity Indexes. Here, you can pick the tables or entities to re-index, or select all. After making your selection, run the job to recreate the necessary indexes. This will help restore the indexing structure for smooth data synchronization with Synapse.
After re-indexing, check your Azure Synapse Link configuration in the Power Platform Admin Center to confirm that the tables are syncing properly and the required indexes are in place.
Lastly:
To prevent the FnO-812 error during future environment refreshes, it is advisable to document and re-run the "Enable Entity Indexes" batch job immediately after each database refresh. Where possible, automating this step as part of your post-refresh process can further reduce risk. Including this activity as a standard item in your UAT or Development environment refresh documentation is also recommended. Additionally, keeping an up-to-date list of entities connected to Synapse will make it easier to re-index them after any data restoration, supporting ongoing stability in your Synapse Link integration.

I hope this helped! Feel free to ask any further questions
Thank you.

We are encountering the same issue with Synapse Link for one of the Finance and Operations (FnO) tables.

I’ve also been unable to find any such batch job or feature.

Hello,

thx for your reply and the steps. Sounds valid... besides:
I`ve checked now 6 different customers, from UAT/TEST to PROD in different tenants and languages in front end: There is not Setup > Azure Synapse Link integration/form/button in F&O.
Is that available in just a specific F&O version upwards?
Do you know the URL endpoint for the integration? There was a span of month, when the Export to Datalake was first introduced, where you couldn`t enter the integration without proper url because the form wasn`t integrated in front end.

Hi @Karen_Mendez2,

Thank you for checking across various tenants and environments.

You are correct that, during the early release phases of Azure Synapse Link (formerly “Export to Data Lake”), the integration setup was not accessible through the UI, and could only be reached via a direct URL. This may still be the case in certain environments where the feature has not yet been fully enabled.

You can use the following direct URL pattern to access the Synapse Link Index Enablement screen:

https://<your-environment>.cloudax.dynamics.com/?mi=SysAzureSynapseLinkIndexEnablement
Please replace <your-environment> with your actual FnO base URL.

If the link does not work or you receive a permission error, the feature may not yet be available in your environment or may require a feature flag to be enabled by Microsoft. In this case, it is recommended to submit a support request so the Microsoft team can verify your tenant's eligibility and assist with enabling the integration.

Thank you.

Thank you.

That menu item (Enable Entity Indexes for Synapse Link) does not appear anywhere in our F&O environments.  Can you confirm if there's a specific release that it is available in?

Hi @Karen_Mendez2,

Thank you for your update and for reviewing your Finance and Operations (FnO) environment.

Please note that the “Enable Entity Indexes for Synapse Link” menu item is not available by default in all FnO versions. Its availability depends on several factors, including:

  • The application/platform version of your FnO environment
  • Whether Microsoft has enabled (flighted) the feature in your tenant
  • Your user role or security permissions, as insufficient privileges may hide this option

To confirm, please check your FnO version under System Administration --  About and compare it to the Microsoft documentation for Azure Synapse Link compatibility.

Thank you.

@v-sgandrathi I am running the most recent application/platform version for FnO and have searched the AOT. I do not see anything referring to Azure Synapse Link or Enable Entity Indexes. Where do I find this? How do you enable it? I'm working in a LCS/Tier2 environment and cannot seem to resolve this issue.

Thanks!

Hi @BrianManchester,

If you’re using the latest version of the FnO application or platform and don’t see the “Enable Entity Indexes for Synapse Link” option in AOT or menus, this is normal. The feature isn’t available directly in AOT. Instead, you can enable indexes for Synapse Link through a system administration workspace:

Go to System administration > Setup > Configure Azure Synapse Link, or, depending on your build, System administration > Setup > Azure Synapse Link > Enable Entity Indexes.

Here, you can run the “Enable entity indexes” batch job and choose to apply it to all entities or just those used in your Synapse Link. This will recreate the necessary system-maintained indexes for the FnO–Synapse synchronization.

If you still don’t see the menu, check that the Azure Synapse Link feature is enabled in Feature Management. Look for “Synapse Link for Dataverse” and make sure it’s activated.

After enabling the feature, check System administration again. The menu should now be available, allowing you to schedule the reindexing job.

For Tier2/LCS environments, remember to re-run this job after a database refresh, as refreshes can remove or disable these system-maintained indexes.

Thank you.

@v-sgandrathi Thank you for the response. However, I do not have a feature available with that name. This feature list below is sorted A-Z. As you can see I don't have feature available:

Hi @Karen_Mendez2,

Thanks for the update and the screenshot.

If you don’t see the Enable Entity Indexes for Synapse Link option, it means the Azure Synapse Link integration feature hasn’t been deployed in your current Finance and Operations build. The FnO-812 error appears when required entity indexes are missing, and this feature is available only from App version 10.0.39 and Platform update 67 onward.

Check your version – Go to System administration > About and make sure it’s App 10.0.39 or higher.

Review installed packages in LCS – Confirm the Azure Synapse Link Integration package is listed.

If it’s not there, submit a support request from LCS to have Microsoft deploy or enable the module.

After it’s deployed, go to Feature management, enable Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse, and run System administration > Setup > Azure Synapse Link > Enable Entity Indexes.

Once enabled, rerun the Enable Entity Indexes batch job to resolve the error.

If the Azure Synapse Link for Dataverse feature still doesn’t appear after checking Feature Management and confirming you’re on the latest build, it’s likely that the Synapse Link integration components haven’t yet been deployed in your environment. This situation may occur if your LCS Tier-2 sandbox was refreshed from a backup or database that didn’t include the most recent extensions or features.

In this case, please open a Microsoft support ticket How to create a Fabric and Power BI Support ticket - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
Mention that the Synapse Link integration feature (FnO-812 dependency) is missing even though you’re on the latest application/platform version.
The support team can validate if your environment deployment template includes the required model and enable it for you.

Thank you.
