On October 20-23rd, 2025, the traditional Plasma Nanotechnology and Bioapplication research group (PNB) workshop will take place in Češkovice, Blansko. We were honored to host Dr. Zoltán Donkó, Research Professor at HUN-REN Wigner Research Centre for Physics, Budapest, Hungary, for an inspiring lecture on: “How to calculate the optical emission spectrum of low-pressure argon capacitively coupled plasmas?” Dr. Donkó and his team combine experimental studies with computational modeling to better understand CCP systems. 🗣️ Colaboración internacional en el Laboratorio de Innovación en Plasmas Atmospheric Microwave Plasmas la Universidad de Córdoba. Entre el 1 de septiembre y el 31 de octubre, Ondřej Jašek, investigador del grupo Deposición de Películas Delgadas y Nanoestructuras del Departamento de Física y Tecnología del Plasma y del centro CEPLANT, desarrolla una estancia en el Laboratorio de Innovación de Plasmas (LIPs) de la Universidad de Córdoba, bajo la dirección de la profesora Rocío Rincón. La colaboración se centra en la síntesis de grafeno de pocas capas (FLG) y en tecnologías relacionadas, como la fabricación de nanocompuestos de grafeno-metal y grafeno-óxido metálico, además de la generación de hidrógeno. Esta estancia cuenta con el apoyo del programa COLOSSE. Ambos equipos investigan cómo las condiciones de síntesis influyen en las propiedades estructurales y químicas de los materiales y en su estabilidad térmica a altas temperaturas. A través de la combinación de diagnósticos de plasma, caracterización de materiales y modelización desarrollada en la UCO, buscan optimizar la eficiencia y el control del proceso de síntesis. El Dr. Jašek participa también como experto en el proyecto PID2023-147436OA-I00, financiado por MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 y FEDER (UE), centrado en la síntesis escalable en un solo paso basada en plasma de nanocompuestos de grafeno, con aplicación en electrodos de baterías de alto rendimiento. Between September and October 2025, Dr. Ondřej Jašek from #CEPLANT and the Department of Plasma Physics and Technology is conducting collaborative research at the Universidad de Córdoba’s LIPS laboratory, focusing on plasma-assisted synthesis of few-layer graphene and related nanocomposites. The stay, supported by the COLOSSE program, strengthens long-term ties between CEPLANT and LIPS and contributes to advanced materials research for energy applications. Read more about dr. PLATHINIUM 2025: Advancing Plasma Technologies on the French Riviera  From September 22 to 26, 2025, the international conference PLATHINIUM (Plasma Thin Film International Union Meeting) took place in Antibes, French Riviera, bringing together leading experts in plasma science and thin film technologies. The conference covered a broad spectrum of topics, including plasma-liquid interactions, plasma-assisted deposition, surface processing, nanotechnologies, and data-driven optimization of plasma processes. Our department was proudly represented by Prof. Petr Vasina, director of DPPT and head of the Deposition of Thin Films and Nanostructures research group, who delivered an invited lecture titled “Exploring Ionized Metal Flux Fraction in Magnetron Sputtering: Insights from Laboratory and Industrial Applications.” In addition, PhD candidate Leila Zahedi presented her research in an oral talk ”Enhancing Corrosion Resistance of Magnesium Alloys with Plasma Treatment and Electrospun Biodegradable Polymer Coating.” Her outstanding presentation was recognized with the Michel Cantarel Student Grant, including a monetary award. Recognition for Impactful Research! Dr. Jan Čech and Dr. Lubomír Prokeš Receive the Dean’s Award from the Pedagogická fakulta Masarykovy univerzity!  At the ceremonial opening of the 2025/2026 academic year, Mgr. Jan Čech, Ph.D. and Mgr. Ing. Lubomír Prokeš, Ph.D. were awarded the Dean’s Award for Long-Term and Outstanding Achievements in Science, Research, or Education. Together with other members of the Applied Plasma Chemistry team and their partners, both colleagues focus on developing technologies for water purification using advanced oxidation processes generated by low-temperature plasma. They are co-inventors of the CaviPlasma technology, which pushes the boundaries of plasma-based liquid treatment toward industrially applicable solutions. Masaryk University is a co-owner of this technology, which received three international patents (Israel, Canada, EU) in 2023 and 2024. The significance of their research is further highlighted by the TAČR 2024 Award for the best applied research project in the Society category. The project, focused on removing persistent micropollutants from water, was also named the overall winner of the TAČR 2024 Awards, Czech Idea. This year, a comprehensive article summarizing three years of research on the CaviPlasma technology was published, with Dr. Čech as the lead author. From the Lab to Forbes! Tomáš Čermák, a student who collaborated with our department under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Tomáš Homola, was recently featured by Forbes Česko and invited as a speaker at the Next Big Thing conference in Brno.   Tomáš Čermák together with Anna Podmanická, a fellow high schooler who also worked with Tomáš Homola and Ph.D. student František Zažímal, co-developed Pura – a unique device that combines plasma and photocatalytic technologies to remove harmful chemicals from water. The duo are global winner s of the The Earth Prize. Now, Tomáš is beginning his journey at Imperial College London, where he will study biomedical engineering. His story is a powerful reminder that science can change the world – and young minds can lead the way. Research stay at Linköpings universitet! Our researcher dr. Peter Klein, from CEPLANT center and DPPT, spent a month at the Swedish University, where he studied the diagnosis of bipolar HiPIMS discharges in collaboration with Daniel Lundin's team. Collaborative research contributes to the development of thin layer deposition technologies and strengthens international cooperation. The stay was supported by the COLOSSE initiative. Science Without Borders – All the Way to Japan!  PhD student Lukáš Vrána has begun a three-month research internship at the prestigious National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) in Tsukuba, Japan, just outside Tokyo. In Brno, under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Pavel Soucek, Lukáš focuses on the research of high-entropy stabilized nitrides prepared by magnetron sputtering. He is a member of the PVDLab team within the Thin Films and Nanostructures Deposition research group (Department of Physics and Plasma Technology and CEPLANT center). To gain hands-on experience with some of the world’s best microscopes and micromechanical testers during his PhD, he set out for an internship in the Land of the Rising Sun. Lukáš will mainly focus on electron microscopy (SEM and TEM), FIB for micropillar preparation, micromechanical testing at elevated temperatures, sample annealing, nanoindentation, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) to understand how these materials behave at the atomic level under extreme conditions. Lukáš secured funding for his internship through the NIMS Internship Program! In addition, the Department of Physics and Plasma Technology also supported him financially, allowing him not only to work in Japan but also to explore the country.
