World Cleanup Day on September 20 is a powerful reminder of what we can achieve together. But what about the cleanup that starts in our own homes, with the pollution we can't always see? At BSH, we believe in facing complex environmental challenges with an honest assessment and meaningful commitment. The issue of microplastics from textiles is one we’re tackling head-on. For years, we've supported scientific research (like the "RUSEKU" project) and industry-wide studies to better understand how microfibers are released during washing. The data shows it's a complex problem that no single company can solve alone—it requires collaboration across the textile, appliance, and water treatment industries. While we continue this vital research, we are also embracing our responsibility to provide practical, effective solutions for our consumers. We want to help making a direct contribution to reducing microplastic pollution. That's why we offer two complementary solutions: 1. A high-efficiency microplastic filter that retains up to 97% of particles. Its unique design is easy to install and features an active self-cleaning system to prevent clogging, meaning you only need to empty it after around 15 washes. It also makes the collected fibers visible, showing the real impact it has during the washing process. 2. An anti-microplastic washing program that reduces fiber shedding from your clothes by up to 30%. We are committed to a holistic approach: advancing the science, collaborating for systemic change, and empowering you with effective technology. Meet Katrin Krieg – championing innovation in sustainability at BSH 🌍🔄 As a Development Engineer in Pre-Development Cooling, Katrin leads our sustainability pillar within the Cooling division. She's currently working on a project focused on reintroducing recycled fridge plastics into our appliances, helping to close the loop and reduce environmental impact. Katrin was also part of the team behind our very first EcoFridge — nicknamed “LittleFoot” – aiming to reduce CO2 emissions. Her work reflects BSH’s commitment to creating more sustainable solutions that support both the environment and our consumers' values. Driving innovation in this field comes with challenges, but Katrin’s passion, resilience, and belief in responsible innovation continue to move us forward.
