EU Council adopts mandate to simplify CSRD and CS3D On 25 June 2025, the Council of the EU agreed on its negotiating mandate to streamline sustainability reporting (CSRD) and due diligence obligations (CS3D). The goal: less bureaucracy, more competitiveness. Key changes include: · New thresholds: ≥ 5,000 employees / €1.5 billion turnover · Risk-based due diligence instead of full value chain mapping · Reporting limited to direct business partners · Two-year delay for climate transition plans · No EU-wide liability rules -> national law applies · Implementation deadline for CS3D postponed to 26 July 2028 The mandate is part of the Omnibus I package, designed to create a simpler and more business-friendly sustainability framework, while keeping the EU’s environmental and human rights goals in sight. New EUDR Benchmarking List Released! On May 22, the European Commission published its long-awaited country risk classification under the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Countries are now labeled as low, standard, or high risk—directly impacting due diligence obligations for companies importing key commodities like coffee, rubber, soy, and wood. -High-risk countries: Belarus, North Korea, Myanmar, Russia -Standard-risk countries: Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia (among others) -Low-risk: All 27 EU Member States, plus 113 other countries (140 in total) are classified as low-risk by the European Commission.
