  • Innovation, Speed, and Local Expertise The expansion of our Chennai facility is a significant milestone in providing the Indian apparel industry with more advanced, locally produced interlining solutions. On October 14, 2025, we celebrated the grand opening of our expanded Chennai site, which increased our manufacturing area from 40,000 to 60,000 square feet. The expansion includes new production lines for 100% cotton and 100% polyester interlinings, especially enabling the local production of our polyester bi-elastic shirt and polyester woven interlinings, which match the quality of imported materials. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art machinery that significantly enhances agility for Indian apparel manufacturers. Lead times drop from 6–8 weeks for imports to just 1–2 weeks for local production, and customers benefit from a  cost advantage compared to duty-paid imports. Since 1998, we have maintained close partnerships with the Indian textile industry through our technical solution studios in Chennai, Bangalore, and Gurgaon. These centers offer expert consultations, trend and innovation workshops, mockups, interlining recommendations, and fusing press audits to help our customers achieve consistent quality and productivity. The new production lines at the Chennai site join existing paste dot, 3P printing, and powder dot printing technologies, expanding the selection of locally produced interlinings. By combining global expertise with local capacity, we are bringing innovation closer to our customers and strengthening the competitiveness of India’s apparel industry. We are proud of this expansion, which enables us to build faster, smarter, and stronger connections with our partners in India, today and in the future.

  • Our latest technological innovation promotes sustainability across industries. At Freudenberg Performance Materials, we have developed unique, 100% bio-based, binder-free PLA/wood pulp wetlaid nonwovens. These materials combine wood pulp’s water absorption and biodegradability properties with the high strength and hot sealability of PLA, all without the use of chemical binders. This innovative approach overcomes the limitations of conventional PLA nonwovens, which are typically produced using spunlaid technology and are limited to blends with polymeric raw materials. Our unique wetlaid process enables us to manufacture nonwovens from a blend of PLA and non-polymeric materials. The result? A new range of high-performing materials, that are as technically advanced as they are ecologically sound. This flexible mix allows the materials to adapt to a wide variety of demanding applications.  In horticulture, for example, our PLA/wood pulp wetlaid materials deliver an ideal balance of good water absorption, good rooting and degradation properties, and strength. For packaging, our innovation provides a new alternative to plastic-based materials. Other applications include embroidery backings and interlinings for apparel, and even wound dressings for the healthcare industry. The highly flexible composition of the two components allows each application to benefit from the perfect balance of natural and technical qualities. We are excited to deliver a new approach to eco-smart materials that serve demanding applications and support a healthier planet.

Evolon® has proven itself in a customer ranking of allergy-friendly mattress encasings. Mite-proof mattress encasings made from Evolon® material have earned top ratings from consumers. Two such products were recently highlighted by German magazine stern as being among the high-rated encasings for allergy sufferers. Key Benefits for Allergy Sufferers Encasings made from Evolon® materials provide powerful protection against house dust mites by blocking them with a dense fiber structure, while remaining soft and breathable for everyday comfort. This makes our materials especially appealing to producers of allergy-friendly mattress covers. Customer Reviews and Hygiene Both the Allsana and Blumtal hypoallergenic mattress covers are made of Evolon® and have been praised for their comfort and effectiveness. The Allsana cover took first place with their encasings which are highly valued for being washable at up to 95°C, supporting high hygiene standards for families with children who have allergic asthma, or people with neurodermatitis. Commitment to Healthy Sleep As part of a healthy sleeping environment, encasings made of Evolon® provide reliable, year-round relief for those susceptible to dust mite allergies, ensuring better sleep and well-being. This issue becomes more pressing in early fall, when symptoms tend to worsen as rooms become less ventilated and dust mites thrive in dry, heated environments. We are proud to see our materials incorporated into such impactful products that support people’s health and well-being in their everyday lives. • Mutual Growth Through Industry-Academia Collaboration and Joint Talent Cultivation Our internship project at the Freudenberg Apparel Factory in Nantong, China, developed in cooperation with the @Beiijing Institute of Fashion Technology (BIFT), is designed to foster talent while driving industry innovation. Launched in 2022, the program provides BIFT students with practical training while offering Freudenberg Apparel with valuable insights into the aspirations and perspectives of future apparel industry professionals. In 2023, our Nantong site was officially recognized as BIFT’s off-campus training base. Every July, students join our team in Nantong for immersive internships. This year, two undergraduates from the Fiber and Fashion Design Experimental Class and one graduate from the Textile Materials and Design program focused their research on: ➢   Sustainable development ➢   Production and application of value-added product inserts ➢   Processes behind woven interlining production. To bridge theory with practice, each student was mentored by an experienced professional. Beyond their individual projects, the students engaged with one another through onsite explanations and demonstrations. This exchange reinforced their expertise while exposing them to perspectives beyond their own fields of research. The program also extended outside the plant. The students visited clothing stores to observe firsthand how interlinings are applied in different garments, deepening their understanding of product features and awareness of market trends. Professional guidance was provided by Jian Zhou, Managing Director of Freudenberg Apparel Nantong Factory, and Edmond Chu, Managing Director of Freudenberg & Vilene International Trading (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. They shared insights from two distinct perspectives: "Research and Application of Interlining Materials in Sustainable Production" and "Customer Insights and Employment Trends in the Apparel Industry." Incorporating all their experiences, the students delivered individual and group presentations aligned with real-world industry dynamics. We look forward to further strengthening our collaboration with BIFT, supporting the development of young talent, and contributing fresh energy to the apparel industry.
