#FactFriday – What is the bread of the year 2026? 🍞 A true German bread classic was officially named “Bread of the Year 2026”: the rye bread. ✨ At “Green Week” in Berlin in January, it was honored and presented by Federal Minister Alois Rainer and Roland Ermer, President of Zentralverband des Deutschen Bäckerhandwerks. 👉 Did you know? ✔ Consists of at least 90% rye flour ✔ Usually baked with sourdough – for aroma, freshness, and digestibility ✔ Rich in fiber and minerals ✔ More drought-resistant than wheat – a plus for sustainable agriculture ✔ Regionally diverse: from pumpernickel to Rhenish black bread With over 3,000 bread specialties, German bread culture is unique worldwide.
