Sport can become the transformational lever for sustainability. But sport needs a gamechanger too!

Info

Our ambition is a completely sustainably transformed world of sport. We show new, tangible ways to make sport a driver for sustainable development. The basis for this is our unique framework, which translates the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into concrete fields of action for sports organizations. This SPORTS20 standard is the first fixed guideline that shows all stakeholders (athletes, clubs, associations, events) the way to sustainability. Together with our supporters and cooperation partners, we use the unifying power of sport to initiate a globally sustainable transformation. The world of sport has the power to become a game changer.

  • "Speeding up the sustainable transformation in the world of sports – and beyond" This was the title of the keynote speech delivered by Stefan Wagner under the banner of SPORTS20 - Another world is possible at the #3rdSustainableSportsSymposium of the sportainable #thinktank, which focused on "Sustainable Organizations and Events in Sports." From July 1st to 3rd, 2025, the #Faculty of #SportsScience at Universität Leipzig is hosting this magnificent event. Here, athletes train and showcase their performance; here, people gather to watch the athletes; here, fans are inspired by proper conduct. Behind the scenes, often hidden, individuals operate who make these events possible: volunteer and full-time officials, whose concrete activities form what we abstractly refer to as organizations. In this complex context, the demand for sustainable development can encounter individual reservations and structural barriers, or it can be realized through impressive commitment and creative solutions. The programme in Leipzig consists of many exciting invited keynotes, which can contribute different perspectives and learnings, as well as workshops. A lot can be discussed and communicated in both. But above all in the Open Space, the interactive exchange format. The SPORTS20 keynote was followed by a lively discussion in the plenary session. Around 50 students and academics from the field of sport and sustainability took part. It was great that we could be there! • Driving sustainable transformation in the world of sports – and beyond – that is our primary objective! We are now delighted to announce a new partnership: SPORTS20 - Another world is possible is now a partner of Stadionwelt and will also give a keynote speech at the #epsARENASUMMIT, which takes place this year on 8 and 9 October 2025 in #FrankfurtAmMain at #DeutscheBankPark. 👏 Over the two-day summit agenda, key topics will include management, infrastructure, entertainment, and digitalization. The eps ARENA SUMMIT in 2024 saw an incredible 800 participants, 24 expert forums, and 120 speakers. In addition to expert panels, this year will again feature ERFA workshops, where learnings can be exchanged in an exclusive setting. Coupled with diverse networking opportunities and numerous exhibitor stands in the expo area, the focus is particularly on exchange. For the fourth time, the ARENA SUMMIT was also pleased to have eps as its naming partner. Established as a key German industry gathering, it also features selected international highlights. As SPORTS20, we will present our international commitment through a presentation by our Stefan Wagner: a non-profit, international cooperation #platform that provides a practice-oriented standard for #sustainableSports based on the 17 UN #SustainableDevelopmentGoals. Our aim: to minimize the footprint, maximize the handprint, and promote systemic change in sports. We are very excited about this opportunity and this partnership! #ANOTHERWORLDISPOSSIBLE -> When we act as one team! 🙌 🌎 More Info: 👉 https://lnkd.in/e2-ktDDT #event #sports #learnings stadiaworld

  • Jadir Fialho Figueira's passion is fighting. Fighting in the sporting sense. He is a #taekwondo #grandmaster. Various experiences have led him to dedicate himself to the fight for a better future for underprivileged children and young people in order to give them the same life-changing opportunities. He won there too, or rather the children did. As a result, he founded the Associação Jadir de Taekwondo - AJTKD in 2000 - an organisation that emerged from the local community and has been dedicated to promoting inclusion through the power of sport ever since. Its credo is: HELPING CHILDREN AND YOUTH DEVELOP THROUGH SPORT He makes remarkable use of his high profile and pursues several goals for a sustainable world of tomorrow, one by one. He is on course for success there too. Most recently, in 2022, AJTKD were honoured with the BBC #GreenSportsAwards 💚 , a testament to the tireless commitment to environmental protection through sport.

Jadir is supported in these projects by Danilo Malafaia, a 3rd dan taekwondo black belt, who is the administrative director at the AJTKD, an organisation that has already helped more than 7,000 children and young people from disadvantaged areas. And more every day.

  • Aileen McManamon, GCB.D is a strong pioneer or ‘gamechanger’ (as Sports Business Journal calls her) and an important reference for our work! For more than 14 years, she has been actively tackling important challenges such as poverty, hunger, inequality and climate change in the sports sector with the 5T Sports Group. Together with leagues, teams and their partner brands, she creates strong organisations that survive crises and strengthen communities. She is also Chair of the Green Sports Alliance (GSA), founded in 2011, an organisation of over 400 professional sports leagues, teams, tours, universities and corporate partners worldwide that are committed to environmental and social issues. The GSA provides its members with the Play to Zero platform, which steers the sector towards a net zero energy, water and waste footprint and recognises the industry's leadership role. Incidentally, the #GSASummit25 took place in Miami just last week. It would go beyond the scope of this article to describe all of their other important projects. So we couldn't be happier to have Aileen at our side and to learn from her experience. At our ‘Global Sports and Sustainability Forum’, she even took on the important #Resources impulse in the first part! This event took place in #CapeTown in the run-up to the G20 summit in South Africa, where she met with 50 international players under the motto ‘Reset the future - another world is possible’. She was joined by all the experts from sport, politics and business – from South Africa 🇬🇭 to the USA 🇺🇲, Japan 🇯🇵, Pakistan 🇵🇰, Brazil 🇧🇷, Hongkong 🇭🇰, Ghana 🇬🇭, Kenia 🇰🇪, Germany 🇩🇪, Canada 🇨🇦 and Australia 🇦🇺. They shared perspectives, looked at the evolving SPORTS20 framework and discussed the first SPORTS20 position paper to be presented to Heads of State and Government at the Summit. A very special experience with some extraordinary people! We are delighted that Aileen and all those involved are supporting our project so generously! We would like to thank Aileen and all the participants and contributors as well as the organisers of this forum. This is a major milestone for our joint endeavour! #ANOTHERWORLDISPOSSIBLE -> When we act as one team! 🙌 🌎

  • Florian Jung is not only a very well-known and successful sportsman who sees his role as a privileged one in which he is actively involved in many challenges in our world. This begins, for example, with his boards, which are made from sustainable materials and thus even put him at a competitive disadvantage. But with this attitude, people win! What's more, he couldn't just look at the water when there are so many people living in poverty behind it. And so it was that almost 20 years ago, together with Marie Christen, he founded the remarkable aid project #MonCoeur in #CapeTown. The project is dedicated to children in South African townships who are affected by poverty and neglect and gives them a real perspective, as almost 80 per cent of children end up on the streets. His ‘Inspiration Hub’ is a wonderful concept: an after-school programme that not only provides education, but also teaches skills and builds self-confidence, with the aim of developing the children into positive role models. - Sport and athletes really can be real winners for us all! We were also able to visit the project in the days leading up to the forum and are delighted that we were able to persuade Flo to present this fantastic project as part of our “Global Sports and Sustainability Forum” in the first part as a #education impulse! This event took place in the run-up to the G20 South Africa summit, where he met with 50 international players under the motto “Reset the future - another world is possible”. He was joined by all the experts from sport, politics and business – from South Africa 🇬🇭 to the USA 🇺🇲, Japan 🇯🇵, Pakistan 🇵🇰, Brazil 🇧🇷, Hongkong 🇭🇰, Ghana 🇬🇭, Kenia 🇰🇪, Germany 🇩🇪, Canada 🇨🇦 and Australia 🇦🇺. • Das Forum, Magazin für nachhaltiges Wirtschaften, berichtet über unser Forum in Kapstadt.
  • The series of important events continues, almost in a sporting sense. And although there is still a long way to go on a global scale, we are not losing sight of our daily endeavours. After the ‘Global Sports and Sustainability Forum’ organised by SPORTS20 - Another world is possible in #CapeTown last week, now this week, the Hamburg Sustainability Conference HSC 2025. It is absolutely essential that sustainability is and remains a top topic. As with our forum, it is also a gathering of international stakeholders. The HSC brings together high-ranking representatives from politics, science, business, civil society and international organisations. 1,600 participants from more than 110 countries in over 60 sessions - the aim: to develop concrete solutions for the most pressing global challenges. So important! 💚 The networking on site and at the very important ‘Senatsempfang’ (Senate Reception at City Hall) was extremely inspiring. Under the title ‘Sustainability in a Multipolar World’, the event focussed on the opportunities and challenges of realignment in the face of geopolitical and geo-economic changes. From strengthening financial resilience and ensuring food security to digital innovation and sustainable urban development. The HSC acts as a catalyst for collective action to achieve the global sustainability goals. Everyone agrees that we can only move forward together (of course!). And that we need to listen to the global South and develop inclusive solutions - beyond classic North-South aid (not so clear!). It was a very good opportunity and a special honour that Tanja Ferkau was able to present a contribution for #SPORTS20 - Another world is possible on the topic of ‘How to make sports more sustainable - Focus Africa’. Thank you for this great option! 🙏 Eva Keretic, Stefan Schurig, David Höltgen, Dr. Norbert Taubken #ANOTHERWORLDISPOSSIBLE -> When we act as one team! 🙌 🌎

  • ‘As a girl from Pakistan, I know that having the opportunity to travel and speak on global platforms is a privilege, and it’s one I’ve worked hard for. But that privilege comes with responsibility. I carry with me the stories of thousands of girls back home who don’t yet have the chance to be heard. I speak up, not for validation, but for bold change. We need systems that truly empower, not just include. I had the honour of speaking at the Global Sports & Sustainability Forum in Cape Town, where I shared reflections on tackling inequalities, stories of climate change, and the urgent need to support grassroots organisations that are making a real impact in difficult circumstances.’ Karishma Ali from Pakistan 🇵🇰 shared these and other important thoughts and impactful perspectives last week.
