Info
Women in Big Data (WiBD) started as a grass-roots organization in 2015 with the mission to inspire and connect women in big data careers. Starting with 15 members and one chapter in San Francisco’s Bay Area, the WiBD community grew to over 17,000 members across 37 chapters and six continents spreading inspiration, growing networks, and promoting member success on an ever-expanding platform. In 2020, the organization filed paperwork that shifted Women in Big Data from grassroots to non-profit, expanding funding capabilities and laying a foundation for a new mission. The founders realized that, as important as inspiration and connection are, their ability to move the needle on a future in which gender and resources don’t limit equitable participation is finite. A new mission was outlined to cultivate tangible opportunities; unlock latent potential, act as a catalyst for advancement, and empower equity allies of any gender. In 2022 we opened a new chapter in Berlin and we are looking forward to welcome you in our network! Women in Big Data is an inclusive community who appreciate that, in the broadest sense, big data is a tool being harnessed at every level, in every industry today, to shape tomorrow. Broader diversity among leaders and practitioners will improve the use and function of big data, ensuring a future that’s better for all of us.

CIO of the Year Award – What an Event! 🌟 Still buzzing from an inspiring time at the #CIO of the Year awards! So many fantastic takeaways and acknowledgements of exceptional leadership. My key lessons learned: 🌟 #Diversity in #C-Level is finally Here ❤️ 🙏 : Germany is making incredible strides! It's not just about giving women a #seat at the table; it's about #empowering them with #voice and #trust to truly #shape the #future of #tech and #AI. The future is diverse, and we're seeing it in action. 🚀 Special Awards Highlight the Best 😍 🚀 : 🏅 #Sustainability Award: Katrin Lehmann, Mercedes-Benz AG 🏅 #Cloud Excellence Award: Dr. Lea Sonderegger, SWAROVSKI 🏅 #Cyber Resilience Award: Andreas Hitzig, VARTA AG 🏅 #Transformation of Work: Christian Hauck, Heraeus 🏅 #Customer & User Experience: Volker Maennle, FANUC Europe 🏅 #Diversity Award: Dr. Georg Oberdammer, TRO #CIO Foundation Awards: 🏅 CIO Executive Award: Antje König, Retail AI GmbH 🏅 #Young Talent Award: Julia Böttger, E.ON Digital Technology Beyond the accolades, the insights from the talks were invaluable: 🌟Tech is the Heart ❤️ : Technology isn't just a department; it's the core of every successful company. 🚀 🌟 People First: Tech isn't about technology; it's about us—the people who create, use, and benefit from it. 🌟 Centralization for Clarity: Centralizing use cases helps avoid chaos, reduce redundancy, and elevate quality. 🌟 Empower Experimentation: Give all employees a safe sandbox environment to simply try out new things. 🌟 👉 #AI is Here to Stay: It's imperative to level up AI capabilities for all employees. 🌟 #Business-Driven AI: Never develop AI solutions solely from tech teams. The pull must come from the business; solutions should directly answer their pressing questions. 🌟 #Diversity Remains Key: Diverse teams continue to be the foundation for true innovation and effective problem-solving.
