DBAG has invested funds from its very own balance sheet to acquire a significant minority share in Stuttgart-based FinMatch AG. FinMatch’s digital platform connects mid-sized companies with more than 1,000 funding partners and has facilitated financing projects with a total volume in the double-digit billion range. Why this matters: 👉 Annual new debt financing amounts to over 100 billion euros in FinMatch’s core market alone 👉 FinMatch brings transparency, speed and choice to this market 👉 The investment is financed entirely from DBAG’s own balance sheet, this in turn means a more flexible strategic focus and support for DBAG’s portfolio companies as well as their growth plans We look forward to working with the team on the next stage of FinMatch’s growth. 💡 Private equity investment in Germany represents only 0.22 % of GDP     The DACH region is one of the world’s largest software markets, generating revenues second only to the United States and Germany ranking number one in Europe. With more than 100,000 active software and tech companies, it offers a deep pool of entrepreneurial talent and innovation. Yet, relative to its economic size, the market remains underinvested. The low penetration of private equity reflects that many SME owners are still unfamiliar with external investors. ⬛ Family offices in Germany – the best fit for exit situations? For many business owners — especially in the German Mittelstand — family offices are emerging as the most balanced and founder-friendly #buyers. In some cases, they’re a better cultural and strategic fit than large corporates or private equity funds. In 2025, Germany saw around 1,300 M&A transactions, with family offices among the most active buyers. Roughly 200 family offices are now investing directly — backing over 1,100 companies across sectors like industrials, software, healthcare, and sustainability. Why should business owners consider family offices as potential buyers? +Family Offices Think in Generations, Not Quarters Unlike private equity funds bound by exit timelines, family offices invest with evergreen capital — no fund cycles, no pressure to sell. They can hold and grow a business indefinitely, focusing on sustainable value creation instead of short-term returns. +They Offer Flexibility — Not One-Size-Fits-All Family offices can structure deals around the founder’s goals: • gradual or full exits • minority stakes or earn-outs • continued management involvement Where strategics seek control and PE imposes governance, family offices build true partnerships based on trust. +They Protect What Founders Value Most Because they invest their own wealth, decisions are fast and discreet — and the human side matters. They tend to preserve what many founders care about most: culture, people, and legacy. They might not always offer the highest multiple, but they often provide something far more important: Continuity, freedom, and long-term stability. Bonus: Family offices could be a bit faster than others. It is my observation so far. Case by case, private equity funds or strategic buyers might be the right exit partners — but don’t overlook family offices, which often offer the best blend of continuity, trust, and flexibility.
