Agricultural insurance for 250,000 maize farmers in Kenya 🌽 New milestone unlocked: As part of the "10 Million Resilient Farmers Initiative" our partner Pula Foundation together with the Kenya Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development is embedding insurance into the national Kenyan fertilizer e-subsidy program. 11 counties in Kenya will benefit from the support - for the first year, the insurance premiums will be fully covered by a Bayer Foundation grant. In subsequent years sustainable public contributions will guarantee a financial sustainability of the insurance. Monday's launch event was a great example for private public partnership making. Thanks to Mildred Nadah Pita, Rose Goslinga, the full team at PULA and Kenya Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development and our Stefan Wilhelm.

In #Madagascar, Community Health Workers aim to vaccinate at least 40,000 children by March 2026, targeting an 80 percent reduction in unvaccinated children. Despite their crucial role, they often lack the support they need to keep going. Doctors for Madagascar is partnering with us and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, as well as collaborating closely with Charité - University Medicine Berlin and mTOMADY, to strengthen their efforts in vaccinating thousands of children in the most underserved areas. This initiative is about more than just immunization—it's about building a sustainable healthcare system that works for everyone, everywhere. 🔗 Read how these tireless health workers are making a difference and why long-term investment in them is key to transforming healthcare in Madagascar. Fostering Scientific Exchange: Our Lindau Fellows engage with Nobel Laureates at #LINO25 We are committed to convene and foster open exchange in the scientific community. For the past 15 years, we have supported around 300 early career researchers to participate in the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings and become Bayer-Foundation-Lindau Fellows. At this year’s 74th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting, we brought 20 of our fellows and invited them to join our dinner. Additionally, Sara T. R. Velasquez, one of our fellows of the Falling Walls Foundation #FemaleScienceTalents program joined in and summarized her participation: “Interacting with Nobel Laureates has been an unforgettable experience, encouraging us to follow in their footsteps, taking (calculated) risks, changing our fields, and innovating to address tomorrow's problems. I am really looking forward to returning to the lab energized to put what I have learned into practice.” Our Executive Director Chitkala Kalidas and Associate Director Tatjana Gust were delighted to welcome three renowned Nobel Laureates: Professor Walter Gilbert, Harvard University Cambridge, USA, Professor David MacMillan, Princeton University, USA and our Hansen Family award winner 2011 Professor Stefan Hell, Max Planck Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences, Göttingen, Germany. Additionally, the evening featured an expert talk on the use of AI and experimental data to reveal key mechanisms in early drug discovery by John O'Donnell, Head Structural Biology Laboratory from Bayer | Pharmaceuticals and enriching conversations, embodying the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meetings’ theme of “Educate. Inspire. Connect.” A heartfelt thanks to the #LINO25 organizational team for their invaluable efforts and contributions to the success of the evening and to all participants. We had the privilege to attend the first Keystone Symposia on Molecular & Cellular Biology “Climate Change & Infectious Disease Threats” in #Hannover, where our team member Tatjana Gust spoke about our Foundation work during one of the panel discussions. The panel provided knowledge about funding priorities and mechanisms in tackling climate change and infectious diseases. At #BayerFoundation, we are committed to addressing disparities in scientific capacity. We collaborate with Alexander von Humboldt Foundation to fund the Center for Emerging and Re-Emerging Infectious Diseases (CERID) research hub in #Nigeria to investigate and control emerging infectious diseases in #Africa and beyond. As part of our effort to support access to health and food security, we also collaborated with AVPN and launched the Climate x Health Lighthouse Fund. The fund aims to tackle the financing gap at the intersection of climate change and public health while fostering ecosystems for urgent action. Additionally, we honor and support scientists in their research to tackle climate change and health related challenges and advance societal progress. Learn more about our work - link in comments! A special thank you to Tim Cullingford from Wellcome Trust, Shannon Weiman and Minda Mason for the opportunity to share our Foundation work and expertise.
