For over 30 years, we have been part of shaping and assessing the Elizabeth line – now the UK’s busiest rail service with over 500 million journeys and counting. But its impact goes well beyond infrastructure. Working with Transport for London and the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom, we developed a global blueprint for measuring the broader value of transport infrastructure. By comparing pre- and post-opening data, together, we helped show how infrastructure like this can transform cities improving neighbourhoods, opening job opportunities, and supporting the creation of new homes. The Elizabeth line is now a global example of how rail can power urban growth. Explore the project on arup.com: https://lnkd.in/eNUAta_F

Decarbonising construction at scale? Collaboration is the key lever 🤝 If we're serious about reducing carbon emissions in our industry, good intentions and small steps aren't enough. We need strong partnerships to broaden the reach. That's why I'm genuinely excited about Heidelberg Materials' newly signed Memorandum of Understanding with Arup, one of the world's leading built environment consultancies. Both partners will engage in joint research cooperation and technical analysis of the opportunities to deploy CCS. Our goal is to advance the understanding of CCS's potential future contribution to build environment decarbonisation. With evoZero, Heidelberg Materials has the first carbon captured cement available globally. This is an essential step in unlocking decarbonisation of the cement sector, starting with Europe – and one we're proud to take together with Arup!

How can we design offshore wind infrastructure that’s not only resilient and efficient, but ready to scale globally? As the world accelerates towards net zero, offshore wind is taking centre stage in the energy transition. With over 138 GW of new capacity expected globaly by 2028 - and the UK targeting up to 60 GW, including 5 GW from floating wind - the sector is entering a new era of innovation and complexity. In our latest video, our specialists Tessa Gordelier and Daniel Powell explore the engineering challenges and digital innovations shaping the next generation of offshore wind. They share how we’re helping clients deliver solutions that meet the technical, economic and environmental demands of this fast-evolving sector. As projects move further from shore and into deeper waters, our integrated approach ensures innovation and investment go hand in hand. Discover how our multidisciplinary teams are bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and real-world engineering to deliver scalable, cost-effective outcomes. Making bold decisions for sustainable living and working isn't easy. It requires courage and determination to prioritise what's best for our planet and future generations. As Martin van Oosten, Senior Transport Planner, says, "Active mobility is about more than just movement; it's about creating healthier, resilient communities and making our cities vibrant places to live and work." We design safe, inclusive, and well-connected active mobility infrastructure. From bustling roads and streets to scenic routes, we bring people together. Join us on this journey towards a greener, more active future. #WeAreArup #ActiveMobility #ActiveTravel

The Rijksmuseum is one of the world’s most visited museums and a Dutch national treasure. In response to growing visitor numbers and accessibility challenges, the Rijksmuseum underwent extensive refurbishment to meet the needs of a 21st-century museum. During the renovation, we were commissioned to lead the building services, building physics, and lighting design. Our custom lighting design combines natural and artificial light to enhance the art and architecture, while controlling energy use and protecting exhibits. To improve sustainability and energy performance, we designed invisible installations, including thermal storage and heat recovery systems. Every system was engineered to perform flawlessly and remain virtually invisible to millions of visitors. #Rijksmuseum #LightingDesign #Energy #BuildingServices

Our new film showcases how Total Design principles are shaping the reconstruction of vital infrastructure across Peru - delivering over 140 integrated projects that include schools, health centres and flood protection systems. Working alongside Mace, Gleeds, and the Autoridad Nacional de Infraestructura (ANIN), we’ve helped establish a delivery model rooted in resilience, sustainability and long-term social value. From digital design processes and nature-based solutions, to facilities planned around the people who use them, each decision is guided by five core drivers: resilience, sustainability, people-focused design, collaboration and legacy. These are not just projects - they’re platforms for lasting impact, tailored to local needs and designed for life. At Arup, resilience is about more than just infrastructure, it’s about people. A road that stays open during a flood means essential services can continue to operate. A street designed for extreme heat makes daily life safer and more comfortable for people of all ages. A well-planned transport network helps communities quickly recover from disruption. Our guide Road to Resilience shares practical insights from 10 projects around the world, from Madagascar to Ireland, from Uzbekistan to Australia, all working to create more resilient and adaptable road networks. Earlier in the month we released the results of our global survey, Embracing AI: reshaping today’s cities and built environment. It reveals how architects, engineers, and city planners around the world are already using specialist AI tools to transform how they work, far beyond chatbots and large language models like ChatGPT.
