Comic Agilé no. 212 - The Target Architecture (reshare) If we want to be truly agile in our product development, our approach to architecture must evolve as well. In traditional, waterfall-style development, the architecture was defined in full after the initial analysis and requirements phases, before any coding began. This “Big Design Up Front” mindset viewed stability as success: if the architecture, requirements, and design didn’t change, it meant we had done our job and avoided costly rework. But today’s markets and domains are far too dynamic for that to work. Product development is inherently complex, and the idea of perfectly defining a target architecture at the outset no longer holds up. Instead, architecture must be treated as a continuous activity; something that adapts and grows alongside the product. A modern, evolvable architecture should be designed to accommodate change by being close to the discovery process of the teams, thus enabling the product to evolve naturally in a dynamic, unpredictable environment. #agile #architecture #architect #comicagile

Comic Agilé no. 287 - Being Pragmatic (reshare) Pragmatism seems to be the new ideology, but let’s not forget to be a tiny bit dogmatic in order to improve the system. Also, when working agile, we minimizing the risks that come with major changes by delivering iteratively, and by inspecting and adapting our plan, process and product frequently. #agile #pragmatism #agileprojectmanager #projectmanager #comicagile

Comic Agilé no. 112 - The Agile "Triangle" (reshare) In the agile world, we want the vision to drive a dynamic scope with fixed cost and time, but if you’ve only partly adopted the agile way of working (or, you're in a so-called "hybrid" settting), the scope might also be fixed. And then, the only parameter that the teams can really vary is how much technical debt to create. And that is also fine if it's paid back eventually, but that never really happens, does it? #agile #irontriangle #projectmanagement #comicagile

Comic Agilé genopslog dette
I'm so grateful to receive any feedback on my sessions, and for my Comic Agilé closing keynote at Agile Tour Vienna 2025, Milena and her team at TechTalk collected both quantitative and qualitative feedback. Here are the results, which I'm of course very proud of 🙌 𝐀𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐞 (0: 𝐏𝐨𝐨𝐫 - 6: 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭): 5.83 based on 70 responses. Here are some of the comments: 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞: ► Entertaining. Funny. But I did not learn anything new to be honest. ► It was good. There were moments of laughter. But not much to take away for me. (𝘐 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯'𝘵 𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘦𝘭𝘴𝘦...) 𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞: ► It's probably very hard to find a keynote speaker who is both so well-versed in the topic of the conference and so funny (and even impromptu!). ► Better than most stand-up comedians I have seen, a perfect closing. ► Luxshan absolutely crushed it, and he was one of the most charismatic and quick on his feet presenters I have ever seen. Talk about raising the bar, 10/10. ► They say never meet your heroes. They are wrong. Thank you for paying his probably enormous salary 💸 ► Best option for a closing keynote and serious competition for Robert Finan. If you think I've made all of this up, try to book me and see what happens 😎 #agile #conference #atvie2025 #comicagile

Have you been part of our workshop yet?
🎤 From the keynote stage to the whiteboard: Luxshan Ratnaravi live in action! Right after his powerful keynote at Agile Tour Vienna 2025, Luxshan dove deeper into the realities of agile transformations in his Comic Agilé storytelling workshop. With lots of laughs and sharp insights, participants explored how to: 🔹 Identify and articulate their team's biggest agile pains 🔹Translate those challenges into humorous but painfully accurate Comic Agilé strips 🔹Spark real conversations and change by showing, not preaching The atmosphere? Lively, creative, and refreshingly honest. And yes – new comic artists were born that day. 😄 This follow-up session reminded us: humor isn’t just entertainment – it’s a powerful tool for reflection, communication, and transformation. Comic Agilé no. 204 - The Middle Manager (reshare) Jonathan Byrnes , MIT senior lecturer, wrote in 2005 that the most important thing CEOs can do is build strong Middle Management (VPs, Directors and Managers). While leadership styles have evolved (toward empowerment and servant leadership), his point still holds: “the highest calling in Management is teaching your Managers to manage.” The challenge arises when Executives don’t embrace agile ways of working. Middle Managers are then caught between teams seeking autonomy and Executives demanding total control and detailed oversight The fix: secure an Executive sponsor early, or win one over by showing how agile practices have already improved results and the further potential if leadership truly commits. In an agile organization, Middle Managers (and all leaders) must servant-lead, foster psychological safety, and provide the resources for empowered teams—the atomic unit of the company. Their mission is to expand these teams’ influence relentlessly, even when it takes tough coaching battles to get there. #agile #middlemanager #linemanager #thefrozenmiddle #comicagile
