Installation Problems?
If you experience problems installing this product, please try the following suggestions. If problems persist,
refer to Readme.wri for information about reporting problems and obtaining technical support.
Nothing happens when I double click the Setup.exe icon:
When you double click the Setup.exe icon, a wait cursor is shown for about a second and then a dialog
should appear that shows initialization status. Initialization can take up to a minute on some systems. Pre-
release versions of Windows 95 did not show the dialog and it appeared that the installation did not work. Be
patient and wait for the installer to initialize. If you start two copies of the installer, simply exit from the
second. No changes are committed until the last dialog is OK'd.
Setup Initialization error:
This may be a generic error dialog or a failure to load a file at initialization. There are two common cases.
First is that there is a file lock on a file that is being updated or replaced. Exit all windows applications and try
the install again. The other cause is that you are trying to install on an operating system that does not
support the installer or this product. 32 bit products require Win95 or WinNT.
Cannot Load Registration DLL. Continuing without verification.
This dialog is presented if one of the support DLLs cannot be loaded. The most common cause is running
the 16 bit installer from a 32 bit operating system. You can install all options from the 32 bit installer
(setup32.exe). You should use the 32 bit installer so it can write your serial number in the about box of your
OCX. This serial number must be presented to recieve technical support and to recieve special upgrade
pricing.
Video Drivers:
Some video cards and drivers may prevent the installer from working. Try setting your video driver to MS
Windows standard VGA video driver before installing and return it to the original setting afterward.
#9 Video Card and Chameleon Cursor
This combination is known to cause problems for the installer. Turn off the Chameleon Cursor and setup
should proceed normally. You may need to restart your computer with the Chameleon Cursor off to
completely remove it from memory.
Virus programs:
Many virus programs will prevent completion of all steps in the install procedure. Turn off the virus program
for the installation and return it to the previous setting afterwards. Note that we check both the master disks
and samples from distribution for viruses before shipping a product.
Lotus SmartSuite and Norton Desktop:
Both programs are known to interfere with the install process. Disable these for the install process. If you
have another type of Desktop manager, try turning it off for the installation process.
The installer was unable to unpack the system support files...
Several system support files are required for this product to properly operate. These should be installed
when your programming environment is installed but may be an older version than those required. This error
may be accompanied by an error dialog that indicates an OCX failed to register. See the product
ReadMe.WRI for more information.
System File Not Copied:
This installer will try to update some system files if the existing files are older than those required by this
product. You may get some sort of dialog that indicates:
1. there is a lock on the file (another program is running that is using the file)
2. the file is read only,
3. or you do not have permission to write to the directory.
There are two ways to proceed if you get this type of error - fix the problem and reinstall or do this part of the
installation by hand. To fix the problem in case:
1. Quit all programs.
2. Change the file attributes to normal for the affected files.
3. Log in to your Windows NT machine under an account that has permission to modify the Window's
system directory.
