 📢 On 9 October, Sidenor participated in the 6th meeting of the Basque Hydrogen Corridor Industry Use Vertical, which took place at the EIC - Energy Intelligence Centre. 👉 During the meeting, the results obtained in several research projects focusing on green hydrogen and decarbonisation were presented. 🗣️ Our colleague Tamara Rodríguez Durán, Senior Researcher in the R&D Process Department, presented: ‘Oxy-combustion in ladle heating’. This work has been developed within the framework of the European Horizon IS2H4C project, which aims to partially or totally reduce the consumption of NG as a fuel. Within the framework of IS2H4C, industrial tests are being studied and carried out on oxy-combustion (NG+oxygen) and (hydrogen+oxygen) as alternatives to NG combustion heating. This objective is in line with Sidenor's decarbonisation and energy transition policy. ⚡ Competing in Europe starts with understandig the cost of energy 🔍In the debate on industrial competitiveness, one factor cannot be ignored: energy costs. 👉In Spain, the electricity bill for the electricity-intensive industry is 162% more expensive than in France and 39% more than in Germany. This difference is no coincidence: it is due to structural factors such as electricity system adjustment services, which in our country have a direct impact on the final price of energy. 📊While our main European partners have more robust compensation mechanisms and more competitive regulated tariffs, in Spain these costs fall directly on the industry. 🔴At Sidenor, we believe it is essential to explain this reality in a transparent manner. 🌍 Steel industry: at the heart of European transformation The European steel industry is at a crossroads. In a context marked by the energy transition, digitalization and circular economy, steel is redefining itself as a strategic pillar for the continent's industrial autonomy and sustainability. The European Commission has launched the Steel and Metals Action Plan, a roadmap that recognizes the essential role of our sector in promoting a secure energy supply, decarbonization, the circularity of materials and the protection of industrial employment. Last week, Brussels took a further step by announcing concrete measures to protect the industry from unfair competition and global overcapacity. These include reducing tariff-free imports, increasing the tariff from 25% to 50% for imports exceeding the tariff-free quota, promoting cleaner and more efficient technologies that reduce emissions in manufacturing processes, and strengthening the European value chain through measures to strengthen steel production and processing within the EU, including traceability of product origin through the "Melt and Pour" principle. 🔴 Sidenor is participating in the 7th ESTAD – European Steel Technology and Application Days, the leading European conference on steel technology and applications, currently taking place this week in Verona🇮🇹. ESTAD brings together experts every two years to share progress in six key areas: ironmaking, steelmaking, rolling and forging, Industry 4.0, environment and energy, and steel materials and applications.   Yesterday, our colleague Nora Egido, Process Researcher in the R&D department, presented the contribution: “Replacement of Conventional Gas Burners with Electrical Resistive Heating for Tundish Processes: A Sustainable Approach within the CITADEL Project.”   📄 This work, developed within the framework of the EU-funded CITADEL project in collaboration with KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), proposes a sustainable alternative to conventional gas burners through the direct electrification of the process using resistive heating. 🗣️Yesterday, our colleague Roberto Elvira presented the conference “Design and selection of suitable Fe-Mn-Al-C low-density forging steels for massive components” at the 24th International Forging Congress (IFC), held in Frankfurt. 🚀His intervention generated great interest by showcasing the latest advances in low-density Fe-Mn-Al-C steels, a disruptive solution that enables the development of lighter, more efficient and sustainable forged components, especially for the automotive sector. 🌍The conference addressed the potential and specificities of these steels in reducing the weight of forged components, thus contributing to the decarbonization of transportation and meeting the goals of the Paris Agreement. 💡This participation reaffirms Sidenor’s commitment developing advanced and sustainable solutions, focusing on innovation, operational excellence and the transformation towards a more competitive and environmentally responsible steel industry.
