Seeing waste pulled from the seafloor is a stark reminder of the human footprint in our oceans. 🌊 Huge respect to the dive teams turning the invisible visible and restoring the Mediterranean, one mission at a time. Every action like this brings us closer to healthier seas.

Espectacular!!! 👏 💙

All the way back in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 ….. As a fellow Captain I brought the Brigitte and Columbus to the very same ports. Teams of Surfers and SUPers plus Divers, the fisherman’s association, IMEDMAR were manually pulling out trash and debris from Calpe and Denia with the Ghost Net Team, Sea Shepherd and the local Dive Teams. The SurfHouse Calpe was and continues to be a base for these projects which were financed privately long before any organization or government body was interested. But there’s is a grim reality. It’s always good work to employ and engage, but unfortunately the sea fills up with trash faster than it can be removed and constitutes to be that way. I firmly believe without proper legislation, laws that would alter using the sea for dumping many of these projects are not feasible based on the results. It’s really sad. Today in 2025, the very same beaches were closed due to sewage. No changes in plastic legislation and there has been a huge expansion of fish farms only a few kms off the coast (both where you and I once worked) The other side of the natural park is a cemetery of fish nets and lead weights, still lingering its ghostly by catch. We also have plenty GPS data of debris …..
