Capalo AI has signed an agreement with Olana Energy to trade and optimize their 70 MW / 140 MWh Šalčininkai Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Lithuania. 🇱🇹 The Šalčininkai project is Olana Energy’s first BESS investment in Lithuania and one of the largest energy storage systems in the country. Scheduled for commercial operation in Q4 2026, the battery will strengthen grid flexibility, support renewable integration, and enhance regional energy security. “Lithuania is a strategically important market for Olana Energy. Partnering with Capalo AI ensures that the Šalčininkai BESS captures every market opportunity while delivering critical balancing capacity for the national power system,” said Ville Kaituri, Founder & CEO, Olana Energy Through Capalo Zeus VPP™, the asset will participate in FCR, aFRR, mFRR, Spot, and Intraday markets, maximizing its profitability and overall lifetime value. We’re proud to announce that Capalo AI has begun trading and optimizing Lithuania’s first commercial battery energy storage system (BESS). Developed by GREEN GENIUS, the Butrimonys project is the first commercial BESS in Lithuania to participate in Litgrid’s balancing market, marking a significant milestone in the country’s energy transition. Capalo AI’s fully automated optimization and trading service ensures the battery delivers critical grid services while capturing maximum value across balancing and wholesale markets. “As Lithuania seeks to generate all the electricity it needs from renewable sources, the demand for balancing services is growing, so we are developing the energy balancing market and encouraging new participants to join. The growing technical capabilities of balancing services allow for the integration of larger amounts of renewable energy resources and a reduction in balancing costs. We are delighted with the first commercial battery in the balancing market and eagerly await other projects,” says Donatas Matelionis, Head of the System Power Operations Department at Litgrid. “The first commercial BESS in Lithuania marks an important step for the country’s energy transition. Last week, we participated in the annual #EnergiaCup2025 at the Bolt Arena in Helsinki. ⚽ After exciting matches against Eltel, Frends, Siemens Energy, and Fortum, our team advanced through the semifinals against Fingrid Oyj to the final.
