🌐 As we close out an inspiring week of the UN Global Pulse Accelerator Programme in Helsinki, we were excited to host a partnerships and networking event yesterday focused on transforming development bringing together UN innovators and Finland’s dynamic innovation ecosystem. This event reflected the UN’s broader commitment to accelerating progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by identifying, supporting, and scaling innovations with proven potential for impact, embedding solutions into policies, systems, and operations across countries, while strengthening our capacity to work with people-centered design, data, digital tools, and AI. The event featured a keynote and a multi-sector panel discussion on the topic, Transforming Development: AI, Innovation & Partnerships for the SDGs. Some key insights include: ✨ “Transformation demands collaboration. No single actor can solve this alone. We must rethink systems, challenge assumptions, and invest in long-term change.”– Antti Vasara, Special Envoy, Technology, Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland ✨“We need to move beyond pilots and embed successful solutions into systems, with people and planet at the center.” – Timo Harakka, Member of the Finnish Parliament ✨“Existing big models don’t represent different cultures and perspectives - that’s a big problem. We need local language models and communities leading the deployment.” – Sasu Tarkoma, Dean, Faculty of Science, University of Helsinki ✨ “AI must be developed with shared human values - balancing innovation, regulation and sustainability.” – Kristine Alanko, Senior Specialist, Ministry of Transport and Communications, FI 🇫🇮 It was great to connect the UN teams with Finland’s innovation ecosystem — from startups and tech firms to research institutions — to explore co-creation, joint investment, and long-term collaboration. #UNGPAccelerator #Innovation #SustainableDevelopment #ScalingImpact #DigitalDevelopment #Partnerships4SDGs United Nations | UN Innovation Network | UN 2.0 | United Nations | Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland | University of Helsinki | Jouni Hirvonen | Dr. Nina Smidt | Siemens Stiftung | Kaisa Salakka | Frank van Cappelle | UNICEF Innovation | Timo Pätiälä | Hellon | Kersten Jauer | Ayaka Suzuki | Talea von Lupin | Tapio Vahtola | Marketta Gland | Annika Launiala
