Never update straight away as there are always bugs.
There shouldn't be many since there was a public beta that went out and people who joined the public beta program were supposed to report bugs....or did they just play with the OS only? Apple has put out several updates to Big Sur during the entire public beta period. If people aren't reporting bugs then I don't know what they expect.

Xbox One Series X is based on Windows 10, with all next gen games adapted for it, those who work with Photo, Video Editing, Vectors, ... would get far better video support on Windows 10 than MacOS next years // Windows Operating System is getting really solid, MaciOS can stick to tablets and phones, still better than Android, no doubt.

Apple seem to be getting worse at this, but let's not spread misinformation: Windows is NOT getting solid at all, quite the opposite... a LOT of Windows 10 update issues have occured after every release (one such link:

This shouldn't happen, period. We pay big bucks for Macs instead of going for cheaper Windows because Apple tells us that controlling both the hardware and the software leads to more stability. Obviously this isn't happening.
I got news for you buddy. The "Big Bucks" you paid for your 2013/2014 Macs has served it's purpose. You're not entitled to a free OS year after year, especially for these Macs that are near 7 & 8 years old. Years ago Apple charged $129 for an OS upgrade and people happily paid it, and Macs weren't any cheaper back then they are now.

How great that you are entitled to affirm this. Maybe some of us are students on a budget who don‘t have the finances to afford a new Mac every two years and a new iPhone every year, like some here who seem to be in a relationship with a computer company.

there are muuuuch more Windows 10 installations running than MacOS.

So I'm not sure if we can compare MacOS vs Windows that easily.

MacOS is far away from perfect altough I like some stuff of it. Windows 10 is getting a lot of opensource code on it, is not the piece of **** it was 10 years ago.

Three points:

It's irrelevant how old the machine is - the question is whether the upgrade is fit for purpose? It would appear for some it is not. At a time when some will already be struggling due to COVID this will be a real blow.

Also Apple tell us (with nags and red dots) that we should all upgrade immediately!

Your post is rather unsympathetic, this is a heap of pain for those not entitled enough to buy the latest and greatest.

"Apple tells us that controlling both the hardware and the software leads to more stability"
Yes but from the M1 macs is available that statement , until M1, Apple controlled software fully and some hardware but still the brain was from Intel and not Apple

🤣🤣 1679 € for an ARM kids PC is cheap now?

That's what I was thinking as well. The whole idea behind public betas is to catch bugs like this before the final release. But that doesn't seem to be happening. Apple now has the largest user base it ever had, and it would be interesting to see what percentage of users are having problems. I guess I'm one of the fortunate ones, because my 2018 mini with Big Sur is now working better than it ever has.

because nothing new is coming to win10...Its clear since the new CEO...the main focus or second is not windows but services and cloud services....win10 is the same like 3-4 years ago

Interesting how Apple put out the Public Beta months ago and this is discovered just now? You mean nobody with a 2013/2014 MBP ever had a bricking issue all the time during the public beta? Hmmm. Sometimes I get the feeling that these issues are made up in order to crap on Apple when they release new products. Furthermore while I'm not saying bricking should happen I think it's a stretch trying to install the latest OS on near 7 and 8 year old computers and expect to have no issues.
Oh the joys of a yearly release cycle...
That's why you shouldn't update on day one.
All of you, and everyone else in this thread needs to stop pretending this is normal. It isn't. Some BUGS on release day are normal. BRICKING machines such that only Apple can restore them has, as far as I can remember, never happened before.

This is completely unacceptable, particularly during a pandemic when its not safe (or at the very least far from ideal) for many people to to go out and people are relying on these machines for their livelihood more than ever.

Unless it can be shown that it is a small number of machines and or related to a factor completely out of Apple's control (I really can't imagine what that would be), this level of **** up is new territory for Apple and deserves to be recognized as such.

Don't normalize this. It's not normal. Apple deserves every ounce of heat they'll get over this and then some.

Mid 2014 13’ MacBook Pro here. No problems. On board since public beta 2.

That was looong time ago.

The reality is quite different.

On the real market professionals work with the best parts and those come from different manufacturers.

Thats why Windows and any other non MacOS Opersting System had been always a far more complex operating system.

As you tell if you work always with the same hardware is more easy to detect if something fails and to fix it

in short.

Nowadays Windows OS is a muuuuch more stable and professional Operating System than MacOS. Yes it is.

MacOS is dead friends.

Sure is a nice Operating System for phones and tables, but on desktop world it is dead.

and well... maybe for non demanding laptops....

but again.... ARM is not on Pro sector nowadays, maybe in the future. After 5 years? 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ maybe... sure not in 2 years
