Apple today updated its trade-in values for select iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch models. Trade-ins can be completed on Apple's website, or at an Apple Store.

The charts below provide an overview of Apple's current and previous trade-in values in the U.S., according to its website. Maximum values for most devices either decreased or saw no change, but the iPad Air received a slight bump.

In addition to the changed values, Apple has stopped accepting 12-inch MacBook trade-ins.

Yeesh. They're saying the most they'll give you for an iMac is way less than what they'll give you for a MacBook Air? Even though they sell for similar prices new? This feels insulting.
I would assume a lot of it is popularity. All-in-one devices are a dying breed and most that buy them hold on to them for a long time.

Only decent return on investments are iPhones and MacBooks. Everything is awful.

Of course this would happen the day before I plan on trading in my M2 MacBook Air. I was already hesitant at $400, now the trade in value is $385.

I only got $320 for my (nearly perfect condition) 14 Pro a couple weeks ago when I traded it in for my iPhone Air, not sure where that $380 is from in the post. So that drop to $300 isn't as drastic as it looks.

Edit: It looks like these iPhone trade in values dropped in September right before the 17 launch. https://www.forbes.com/sites/jaymcg...17-trade-in-prices-versus-samsung-and-google/

There is no such thing as a return on an investment when it comes to consumer electronics. They are depreciating assets.

Yes, the "old" trade-in values quoted in the article were the values from just before the iPhone 17 line's launch, not the prices that were in effect yesterday. For example, yesterday an iPhone 13 Pro Max and iPhone 14 Pro both had trade-in values of $320; today they are both $300. Steep drop from earlier in the summer ($370 and $380 respectively), but not from the last month's prices.

Verizon gave me a $1100 trade-in credit for my old iPhone 14 Pro Max just a few weeks ago. Interesting chart, unless I’m missing something important here

People complaining about not getting "as much" money back for used, aging devices, because Apple is rich? Hmmm? Did you not get the value from the device that you originally paid for?

I firmly believe all manufactures should have a mandatory take-back program, for responsible recycling, and those that choose to buy products back are being generous.
