  • 🏭 New deal for our Greentech Industry fund! We’re proud to announce our investment in BIOWEG 16M€ Series A round, alongside BONVENTURE, EIC - European Innovation Council and NBank Capital! 🌍 The challenge Microplastics – plastic particles smaller than 5 mm – have become a global health issue. Over 430 million tons of plastic are produced each year, and microplastics are now found in our oceans, soils, air, and even our bodies. Europe has already launched a progressive ban, phasing out microplastics over the next 10 years and concern from consumers is rising, creating both urgency and opportunity for scalable, sustainable alternatives. 🌱 Bioweg’s solution Bioweg develops next-generation, bio-based and biodegradable materials from bacterial cellulose. The company converts food industry by-products into bacterial cellulose through precision fermentation, refining it with green chemistry into “drop-in” alternatives to fossil-based polymers. Their flagship products are designed to replace microplastics in cosmetics, paints, industrial formulations, and beyond. 💡 Why we invested At Axeleo Capital, we are committed to supporting greentech industrial startups that can transform industries and accelerate the transition to a sustainable economy in Europe. Bioweg stands out with a unique positioning: 📜 A favorable regulatory tailwind: with the EU progressively banning microplastics, Bioweg is ideally placed to provide the bio-based alternatives industries need. 🏭 A robust industrialization strategy: a fermentation process already validated at pilot scale, ready to transition to commercial deployment through a world class production FOAK. 📈 Strong market demand: growing demand from strategic markets such as cosmetics, homecare, and agriculture, where the need for biodegradable alternatives becomes urgent. 👏 Big congratulations to Prateek M. (CEO), Srinivas Karuturi (COO), and the entire Bioweg team! We’re excited to support your journey toward replacing microplastics, one bead at a time. cc: MARC LECHANTRE, Mathieu Viallard, Guillaume Ⓥ Sarlat, Eric Burdier, Sandra Dubos, Virginie Lucchini, Victor Chamfeuil, Victor Angot, Bastien Couasnon 🔗 Link to article in comments

🚨 Exits in European Cybersecurity Ecosystem from Axeleo Capital (AXC) 🦠 📊 The European Cybersecurity Ecosystem Is quietly maturing, and the exit data proves it. We recently analyzed every cybersecurity exits in Europe between 2021 and 2024, and here are 6 key takeaways from our latest report: 1. Strategic acquisitions are happening earlier than you think 🍼 Over 80% of European cybersecurity companies that got acquired were before reaching Series B. This reflects a growing appetite from acquirers to lock in innovation early, before valuation expectations escalate. 2. The US is still the most active buyer 🇺🇸 More than 40% of acquisitions were made by American entities. European companies continue to build globally relevant solutions, but value creation is increasingly captured across the Atlantic. 4 out of the 8 French exits from 2021 to 2024 were coming from the US such as: Sqreen acquired by Datadog, Alsid acquired by Tenable, CloudSkiff (Acquired by Snyk) acquired by Snyk and Kadiska acquired by Netskope. (3 of them coming from Axeleo’s portfolio 🤗) 3. The UK is leading, but others are catching up 🇬🇧 The UK accounted for 15 exits in 2024, reaffirming its leadership. However, France and Germany have emerged as strong challengers, despite more cautious investment environments. 4. Exit timing is consistent and long term 📈 The average time to exit in 2024 was 8 years. Cybersecurity startups require sustained support and long-range conviction. Quick wins are the exception, not the rule. 5. Early-stage backing remains a bottleneck 💰 While strategic buyers recognise the value in European cyber, many startups still struggle to raise at the Seed and Series A stages. This is a critical gap for European investors to address. 6. The market opportunity remains strong, if you know where to look 👀 In just the first few months of 2025, we’ve already tracked six new exits in cloud security, IAM, threat intelligence, and data security, including Mantra.ms, Cado Security and Trelica by 1Password. 📘 Download the full version through the link in the comments 👇. If you’re building in this space or investing in the next generation of European security leaders, we’d love to connect. Huge thanks to Alix and Alexandre on this one 👌 #Cybersecurity #VC #EuropeanTech #Startups #VentureCapital #Innovation #AxeleoCapital #Axeleo #Report

🛡 Axeleo Capital (AXC) – 11th Edition of the Cybersecurity Index 🛡 Here are the key takeaways from our Q1 2025 Cybersecurity Index: 📈 Funding Trends in Q1 2025: Fewer Deals, Bigger Tickets Q1 2025 recorded €192M in total funding, slightly below the same period last year. The key shift lies in the number of deals: 31 this quarter vs. 44 in Q1 2024. This reflects a trend we’ve been tracking for the past year - quite stable capital deployment, but a drop in deal volume. Investors appear more selective, concentrating capital into fewer, higher-conviction rounds, which is driving up average ticket sizes across the board. 🏆 Top Deals of the Quarter • Blackwall (formerly BotGuard): €45M to protect SMBs from malicious online traffic and bots. • Cloudsmith: €21M to scale its cloud-native artifact management platform. • ThreatMark: €14M to safeguard financial institutions against sophisticated fraud schemes 🇪🇺 Geographical Highlights The UK leads again with 8 deals totaling €33M, including Cloudsmith’s €22M Series B. Western Europe saw a balanced distribution, with France, Germany, and Italy each recording 2 deals. Strong activity emerged from Central and Eastern Europe, with the Czech Republic (4 deals) and Austria (2 deals) posting impressive average ticket sizes. Notable raises include Whalebone (€13.35M) and Quantum Industries GmbH (€8.8M). 🌱 Funding Stages: Evenly Spread Activity Pre-seed and Seed rounds made up 50% of all deals. The rest was split between Series A and Series B, reflecting investor engagement across various growth stages. 📊 Sector Highlights • Fraud & Financial Crime Protection led with 22% of all deals. • Threat & Actor Intelligence and Identity & Access Management accounted for 18% of deals 🚀 Exit Activity 7 exits were recorded this quarter. Mantra.ms (one of our portfolio companies) was acquired by Cyber Guru, marking a great French-Italian deal and reinforcing Europe’s behavioral security landscape. 👩💼 Diversity Watch Q1 2025 saw 1 deal involving at least one female founder, continuing the ongoing challenge of improving diversity in the European cybersecurity ecosystem. 🔗 To explore the full Cybersecurity Index report, find the link in the comments below. 🙏 Alix François-Poncet & Alexandre Levan #cybersecurity #startups #b2b #Europe #cyber #FundingTrends #EarlyStage #VentureCapital
