The Franco-German Alliance is emerging as a catalyst for European AI leadership On March 27, 2025, we participated in the “Club of German Investors in France” dedicated to Artificial Intelligence at L’Hôtel de l’industrie. We extend our gratitude to Guy MAUGIS, Patrick Brandmaier, Doris Birkhofer, Albane Bruyas, André Meyer-Vitali, Stephane Requena, Diana Schillag, Marie-Cécile Tardieu and our partners of the French-German Chamber of Commerce for organizing with Business France this event at such a pivotal geopolitical moment—one that demands stronger European sovereignty. Strengthening Franco-German cooperation is more critical than ever in response to the Trump administration’s trade policies. Politico noted that the election of Friedrich Merz marks a major step in this direction in its March 12, 2025 article "Trump reignites Europe’s Franco-German engine", highlighting the renewed Franco-German momentum. Now, it is time to turn this momentum into concrete actions. This means building on the €173 billion in bilateral trade exchanges recorded in 2023 [DG Trésor], a partnership already underpinned by strong industrial cooperation. Germany plays a major role in French reindustrialization as our 2nd-largest foreign investor with 2,323 projects in 2023, just behind the US [Business France]. France is committed to leveraging this solid foundation to position Europe at the forefront of AI, and we firmly believe this must be achieved through enhanced Franco-German cooperation. 💡 The Paris AI Summit in January 2025 showcased what the French AI ecosystem can bring to the table : 🎓 40,000 AI graduates trained annually and + 4,000 AI researchers [Elysée] 🦄 +750 AI startups [France Digitale 2025] &16 AI unicorns like Mistral AI, OWKIN or Spendesk ⚡ A powerful & decarbonized energy sector capable of fueling digital infrastructures : France exporting 89 TWh annually, 20% of its yearly consumption [Connaissance des énergies] With its €109 billion in announced investments and more than 100 participating countries, the summit was praised by the German AI community. Bitkom MD Susanne Dehmel described it as "a signal that Europe has not given up on the race for AI and has certainly not lost it." With 508 AI startups in Germany, such as Aleph Alpha and DeepL, and major industrial players like Bosch and Schwarz Gruppe, there are tremendous opportunities for collaboration with the French ecosystem. 🚀 Things are moving in the right direction. The last Franco-German Council of Ministers in May 2024, took an important step by launching a Franco-German AI Startup Fund, inspired by the French Tibi model. Institutional cooperation is well established: we now need more partnerships between companies, like the one signed last month between Helsing and Mistral, to pool our strengths and build a truly European AI ecosystem. France stands ready to build European AI sovereignty and sees its German neighbors as key partners in this mission.

Strengthening Investment Ties Between France & South Africa 📢 On February 19, 2025, Business France (Invest in France), organized a breakfast dedicated to the attractiveness of France at the Pullman Cape Town. This gathering brought together South African investors, business leaders, and key stakeholders to explore France’s position as Europe’s leading destination for foreign investment. The event sparked insightful discussions on the opportunities for South African companies to expand and grow their presence in France, with a focus on R&D and innovation. 🇫🇷🤝🌍 A special thank you to H.E. David Martinon, Ambassador of France to South Africa, Lesotho and Malawi, for his impactful opening remarks, where he highlighted the strong economic ties between our nations. He also emphasized France’s leadership as Europe’s #1 destination for foreign investment, a position strengthened by the strategic France 2030 Plan. Member of Parliament Amélia LAKRAFI underscored France’s commitment to fostering business-friendly policies that support foreign investors. Nicole Blasyk, Project Director for Inward Investments in Sub-Saharan Africa at Business France, provided a detailed overview of why France remains a leader in attracting foreign investment. She highlighted France’s innovation-driven economy, dynamic industrial hubs, and the robust support system for international businesses. In 2023 alone, 1,815 investment projects created 59,000 jobs over three years. ✨ One of the highlights of the morning was the inspiring testimony from Johann Du Toit, CEO of Simera Group. He shared the success story of Simera Sense—a cutting-edge South African company specializing in high-performance cameras for CubeSats and microsatellites. With its new facilities in Somerset West and recent expansion to Toulouse, the ‘European Space Capital,’ Simera exemplifies the boundless opportunities for collaboration between our two countries in the aerospace sector. 🚀 Thanks to Sophie Bel and Alexandre Barrière Izard for their exceptional contribution to the organization of this event which reaffirmed the strong economic relations between South Africa and France. If you're looking to expand your operations in Europe, France is ready to welcome you! 🤝 Keep your eye out for the Business France Annual Report on FDI 2024, which will be released at the end of March 2025! 🔗 Read more about the event here : https://lnkd.in/e7t9gKiD #InvestInFrance #ChooseFrance #TradeDevelopment #SouthAfricaFrance #Innovation
