The Network of Cinema Theatres for the Circulation of European Films
À propos
Founded in 1992 with funding from the MEDIA programme (Creative Europe) and from the Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée (CNC), Europa Cinemas is the first film theatre network focusing on European films. Its objective is to provide operational and financial support to cinemas that commit themselves to screen a significant number of European non-national films, to offer events and initiatives as well as promotional activities targeted at Young Audiences. Thanks to the support of Eurimages and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the influence of Europa Cinemas extends to Eastern European countries, to the Balkans, to Russia and to Turkey. In addition, 42 screens (44 screens) in 42 cities in 31 countries in Europe and worldwide are also associated with the Europa Cinemas network under the partnership with the Institut Français. Open to all types of cinemas, from the municipal ones to the multiplexes, the network has also expanded well beyond Europe according to the support programmes implemented: yesterday in Asia and Latin America through the Mundus programme, tomorrow in Canada via the Eurimages programme. Europa Cinemas thus contributes to making Europe and its cultural diversity a shared idea around the world.

🌿 Congratulations again to the #ECLabel winner at this year’s Giornate degli Autori, Arkoudotrypa / Bearcave! The film will benefit from increased visibility across the Europa Cinemas' network, including promotional backing and a financial incentive encouraging network cinemas to screen it. Directors Stergios Dinopoulos and Krysianna B. Papadakis stated the following: “Bearcave is a genre-blending love odyssey pulsating with the mountain folklore of the Balkans. It shines an original light on the lives of two young queer women in Greece, exploring their relationship through the lens of youth, light and humor, in contrast to the darkness and suffering in the lives of rural queer people that we have come to expect. This film represents a new perspective on the process and politics of filmmaking: conceived using a grassroots and collectivist approach, in harmony with the Divine Feminine and Nature. This is a homemade film, shot in the houses of our grandmothers, with a young, women-led team, by a cohort of talented emerging Greek filmmakers.” Thank you once again to our incredible Jury: • Manuel Asín, Cine Estudio del Círculo de Bellas Artes, Spain • Simon Blaas, Cinema Middelburg, The Netherlands • Ivan Frenguelli, PostModernissimo Perugia, Italy • Signe-Annie Lindstedt, Zita Folkets Bio, Sweden We wish Bearcave a beautiful journey through Europe! 🏆 Our #ECLabel at this year’s Giornate degli Autori goes to 𝗕𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗖𝗔𝗩𝗘 (Arkoudotrypa) by 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗼𝘀 𝗗𝗶𝗻𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗼𝘀 & 𝗞𝗿𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗕. 𝗣𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗸𝗶𝘀!👏 The jury stated: “Arkoudotrypa/Bearcave is a really fresh and energetic feature debut from Stergios Dinopolous and Krysianna B. Papadakis, with a young and very talented crew behind them. The film follows the relationship between two young queer women high up in the Balkan mountains. Both a clash and a fusion of the old and new, the film is constructed a little like a thriller, but there is also more than a touch of the supernatural. The music, editing and photography are really original, and the performances by the two girls are exceptional. We really hope that the award of the Label will encourage distributors and audiences around Europe.” Congratulations to Stergios Dinopoulos, Krysianna B. Papadakis and the entire team behind the film! And a huge thank you to Giornate degli Autori and to our four dedicated Jury members for their thoughtful and passionate work: • Manuel Asín, Círculo de Bellas Artes, Spain • Simon Blaas, Cinema Middelburg, The Netherlands • Ivan Frenguelli, PostModernissimo Perugia, Italy • Signe-Annie Lindstedt, Zita Folkets Bio, Sweden Arkoudotrypa/Bearcave is a Pame Ligo Collective production co-produced with Pucci Productions. 📸 Photo credits © Nettle Pie Ltd #Giornate2025 #VeniceFilmFestival #Europacinemas #EuropeanCinema #EuropeanFilms #ECLabel
