Créée il y a plus de 70 ans à l’initiative d’Eugène Freyssinet, l’inventeur de la précontrainte, la société Freyssinet réunit un ensemble d’expertises sans équivalent dans le domaine du génie civil spécialisé.     Preserving and extending the life of reinforced concrete structures: a key contributor to sustainable construction in line with our Sustainable Technology signature and DNA, Freyssinet has been an active board member of P+Ex Center of Excellence (Preserve + Extend) for about a year already. This international organization brings together experts from around the world to foster innovation in the maintenance, repair, and durability of concrete structures. 🎯 P+Ex Center of Excellence mission is to raise awareness of the intrinsic value of existing concrete structure — as both a heritage asset and a carbon sink — and to promote practices that extend their service life. This approach helps reduce the overall carbon footprint of structures and minimizes the need for new construction, thereby preserving natural resources. 📍 During the upcoming ICRI - International Concrete Repair Institute Fall Convention in Chicago, P+Ex Center of Excellence will host an official 2-hour session to present its progress and initiatives.     [Project] Freyssinet will supply and deliver expansion joints, as well as supply and install post-tensioning for several new bridges in the M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace (M12RT) in Australia. 🛣️This project, performed by John Holland and Gamuda Australia JV, in the state of New South Wales, is one of Australia's most important infrastructure upgrades.     [🎞️VIDEO] Galecopper bridge stay cable replacement project in Utrecht, Netherlands  Since 2022, our Freyssinet team, consisting of members from Freyssinet Zuidwest B.V. and Major Projects Department, undertook an ambitious project: the replacement of all the stay cables on the Galecopper Bridge on behalf of the owner Rijkswaterstaat and the contractor VolkerWessels, in collaboration with the designer Arup 🔧 Installation of 16 new cables using modern parallel strand system technologies, including anchorage, deviation saddles, and a bespoke fire protection.    🔧 Removal of the existing cables: 8 stay cables, each composed of 12 locked-coil strands.    The last lock-coil strand was destressed on Monday evening, June 16!  🔧 Temporary works & structures for all detensioning operations.    🚦 Traffic maintenance during the works.    This project was a true engineering, logistical and human challenge.     Rijkswaterstaat staat voor een forse onderhoudsopgave. Voor veel viaducten, tunnels en bruggen - zoals de Galecopperbrug over het Amsterdam-Rijn-kanaal in de A12 bij Utrecht - tikt de tijd. Uitstel is geen optie. Maar hoe vernieuw je de op-één-na drukste brug van Nederland zonder een langdurig verkeersinfarct te veroorzaken? Samen met bouwer VolkerWessels en tui-specialist Freyssinet hebben Feijenoord Straal- en Schildersbedrijf, Civiele technieken deBoer bv en met alle onderaannemers en ingenieursbureaus zijn we tot een unieke prestatie gekomen: de complete draagconstructie vervangen, terwijl de brug beschikbaar bleef voor het verkeer. Een unicum in Europa en een schoolvoorbeeld van innovatieve samenwerking met de markt. Vandaag stond ik met ondermeer Gerald Paalman, CEO van VolkerWessels, Caspar Lugtmeier van Freyssinet en Eric Diepstraten, HID van RWS Midden-Nederland met een kort feestelijk moment stil bij het aanbrengen van de laatste nieuwe kabel aan op het werkeiland. Met vertegenwoordigers van Provincie Utrecht, Gemeente Utrecht en omliggende gemeentes. Na de afbouwwerkzaamheden kan het verkeer eind van het jaar weer zonder wegversmallingen en met normale snelheid over de brug. En het verkeer op de weg en het water? Dat stond allesbehalve stil en kon gewoon doorrijden en doorvaren.     [PROJECT] After conducting an inspection of the existing bearings of the A-42 motorway in Toledo, Spain, a decision was made to replace them. We have now completed the replacement of bearings on piers 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, and on abutment 2 of the structure located over the Tagus River. The bearings for piles 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, and 8 are elastomeric bearings, while the bearings for abutment E2 are spherical.  👉 It is a unique operation, as a mixed lifting system has been used, combining the arrangement of the hydraulic cylinders to achieve a transmission of indirect and direct forces to the deck. 👉 To carry out the lifting works, different execution methods have been developed: prestressed corbels on piers 4 and 5, with a load capacity of 1,000 tons per bearings. For the other piers, 2 shoring towers were placed per bearing, each with a 200 tons capacity. As for the abutments, pilasters attached to the 300-ton structure were executed.     [Project] Technical Seminar and Site Visit at Ruggiero D’Altavilla School, Italy 🏫 Freyssinet Italy was involved in the seismic retrofitting of the Ruggiero D'Altavilla School in Mazara del Vallo (Italy), a crucial project for the safety of children.  Last summer, our team successfully designed, produced, and tested 67 ISOSISM® HDRB (High Damping Rubber Bearing) isolators and 52 sliders CE type. The retrofit work also involves pillar cuts and device installations. 🎯What is the purpose of ISOSISM® seismic isolation devices? ISOSISM® seismic isolation devices lengthen the fundamental vibration period of the structure being protected. They help reduce the structure's response to seismic forces, by drastically decreasing the seismic acceleration. The project is progressing smoothly, with special base plates designed for securing devices to existing pillars. 📅 A technical seminar and site visit were organized on April 10th, offering professionals an in-depth understanding of the seismic retrofit process. About 80 people attended, including technicians, engineers, and industry professionals. 👏 Congratulations to the organizers for their commitment to seismic safety. #SeismicSafety #Construction #Innovation #Engineering #Freyssinet
