🏆 Our 2025 Climate Trajectory Rankings are out! 🚀 Le Monde covered it in this morning’s edition: https://lnkd.in/eycZV42G And the full details are also available on our blog: https://lnkd.in/eMqgZF2w 🍾 A few good news items — likely linked to the new CSRD regulations: 👉 The number of ratings above 7 and the overall average are both rising, 👉 Sanofi even reached the maximum score of 10/10! 🚨 But the contrast remains striking with the group of laggards, far behind the main pack. Managerial motivation, fear of transparency towards competitors, or a depressed market context are among the reasons we see behind this gap. 🏦 A major innovation this year: banks and insurers are now included in our study — but in a separate ranking! Indeed, the complexity of their business, combined with a real lack of maturity in measuring certain emissions, led us to design a new approach inspired by the recent SBTi framework specific to them. (Hence the slight delay in our publication.) 🔍 100% of the companies received their ratings in advance to allow for feedback, and several important discussions took place. 🏃♂️ Finally, let’s highlight that all the research work is 100% human, requiring a major investment from most of our members. Bravo and thank you! ☘️ More analyses by sector and by theme coming soon on our blog. Enjoy without moderation!

🌍 Net Zero: Worldwide, companies are accelerating their alignment with science – great news! The latest SBTi Trend Tracker (released yesterday) confirms a strong global momentum: science-based emissions reduction targets are becoming the new business standard, even beyond Europe! 📊 The figures speak for themselves: ✅ Nearly 11,000 companies worldwide now either have science-based targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) or have committed to setting them. ✅ Over 1,900 companies have validated net-zero targets, a threefold increase in just 18 months. ✅ The number of companies with SBTi targets has almost doubled (+97%) for near-term targets and more than doubled (+227%) for net-zero targets. ✅ These companies now represent over 40% of global market capitalization and a quarter of global revenues! 🌏 Key trend: Asia is becoming the engine of change. China saw a +228% increase in the number of committed companies, followed by Thailand, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. This movement is also spreading across Latin America and Eastern Europe. Large companies in these regions are setting targets not only for themselves but are also pulling their value chains along, especially suppliers. 🏭 Which sectors are leading the way? Industrials, Consumer Goods, and Materials are the top three. Together, they account for the majority of newly aligned companies. More than half of the industrial sector’s targets were adopted since 2024, marking a rapid shift in high-emissions industries. 💬 Why does this matter? In a world facing unprecedented climate, geopolitical and regulatory turbulence, companies are showing the foresight to prepare for the inevitable transformation of their models. Climate is no longer a cosmetic issue – it is becoming a pillar of resilience, competitiveness, and long-term value creation. 👉 https://lnkd.in/e5rYGeZD #Climate #NetZero #SustainabilityTransition #CorporateSustainability #ESG #SBTi #Decarbonization #BusinessStrategy #ClimateStrategy #CSR

🍾 Champagne: The European Commission recommends voluntary sustainability reporting for SMEs! 💼 The VSME standard, annexed to the official recommendation of the European Commission, offers a voluntary, simple, and practical framework to help micro, small, and non-listed SMEs communicate their ESG commitments and access sustainable finance. 🌍 Why a voluntary standard? Under the CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive), large companies are required to publish detailed sustainability reports, including information on their value chains. As a result, they request ESG data from their SME suppliers. The European Commission has acknowledged the need for proportionality in these demands and promotes this standard to: 👉 Reduce the administrative burden, 👉 Help SMEs respond efficiently to requests from clients, investors, and banks, 👉 Improve the visibility of committed SMEs. 📦 What does the VSME standard say? This standard, developed by EFRAG with input from SMEs, banks, and institutions, includes two modules: 🧱 1. The Core Module (mandatory if using the standard) This is the “minimum foundation” for SMEs and a reasonable target for micro-enterprises. It includes 11 topics: • B1 – Company profile • B2 – Sustainability governance • B3 – Energy and GHG emissions (Scope 1 and 2) • B4 – Pollution • B5 – Biodiversity • B6 – Water • B7 – Waste and circular economy • B8 – Working conditions • B9 – Equality and inclusion • B10 – Value chain • B11 – Basic financial indicators 🟢 Micro-enterprises may choose only selected sections. 📊 2. The Comprehensive Module For more mature SMEs or those subject to stricter requirements, this module adds: • C1 – Materiality and stakeholder engagement • C3 – Emissions reduction targets (including Scope 3) • C4 – Physical and transition climate risks • C8 – Revenue from climate-sensitive activities • Other topics: sustainable procurement, taxation, ethics, green innovation… 📐 What about Scope 3? 👉 Scope 3 (indirect emissions) is not required in the core module but is strongly recommended: • If the company has emission-intensive value chains, • If it wants to demonstrate a credible climate strategy, • Or if stakeholders request it. Companies may – unfortunately – exclude Scope 3 if they lack data, resources, or if it is not material. 🚨 No audit required SMEs can publish their report on their website or share it with partners. No audit is required: a simple self-declaration is sufficient. 💡 Why adopt the VSME standard? To: ✅ Provide a standardized response to clients’ ESG questionnaires, ✅ Improve positioning in tenders and funding applications, ✅ Prepare for future regulation. 🎯 An SME that adopts the VSME standard shows it is committed, structured, and proactive on sustainability issues!

🍾 Champagne! The Forum for Insurance Transition to Net Zero (FIT) has just released its guide for Insurers’ Transition Plans! 👷 This is the result of several months of work by this standing group led by UNEP FI (the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative), in which we’ve been actively involved — and which has worked in an exemplary manner. 👉 What makes it unique: it focuses on underwritten emissions, not financed ones. A much-needed beacon of clarity at a time when obscurantism is spreading in all directions! 💡 Coincidence? Les Ateliers du Futur are kicking off this Friday with a series of workshops — alongside industry experts — on how to measure these underwritten emissions. To see the future, or to refuse to see it — that is the question! #climateaction #unepfi #transitionplan https://lnkd.in/eKmvpVAg

🚨SB62: Our Call to Political Leaders and Central Bankers 🌍 As the SB62 Climate negotiations kick off in Bonn, we address the following global leaders: 👉 Xi Jinping, Liu Zhenmin (China) 👉 Narendra Modi (India) 👉 Emmanuel Macron (France) 👉 Ursula von der Leyen (EU) 👉 Keir Starmer (UK) 👉 Christine Lagarde (ECB) 👉 Jerome Powell (FED) 👉 Simon Stiell (UNFCCC) 🚀 Our CALL TO ACTION, based on the findings of our 3rd “Shadow COP”. 🚨 This third Call for Action is all the more urgent as headwinds from the US add to the chronic deadlocks caused by fossil fuel-producing countries… We have structured this call around three pillars: ✅ The Will to Act: Stronger cooperation and higher ambition, ✅ The Means to Act: Unlocking green financing worldwide, ✅ The Know-How to Act: Fostering innovation and capabilities. 👍 Memory is the source of reason. Let us remember that thanks to the work of the COPs, humanity has pivoted from a +5°C trajectory to around +3°C. This proves the process is working! But it is still not enough. Whatever the bumps along the road, efforts must continue and intensify. 💡 Our 10 key recommendations aim to highlight what truly matters amid an unprecedented level of noise… ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eiV_tfXq To be consumed without moderation! #climateaction #COP #unfccc

🚀 For the 3rd time in a year and a half, the small but highly professional team of Ateliers du Futur presents its QUATERLY CLIMATE REVIEW: Diagnostics and forecasts covering all key areas needed to win the decarbonization battle: 🌍 The health of the Earth’s climate system, ⛽ Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions, 🌞 Existing and upcoming green technologies, 🇺🇳 Public policies, 💶 Financing. 👍 Here are our 2nd and 3rd reports on retrospective emissions and the perspectives linked to NDCs, which are currently—albeit too slowly—being submitted to the United Nations in compliance with the Paris Agreement... The PDF documents in English are available for download and should be consumed without moderation! A preview: 📈🌎 In 2024, global CO2 emissions increased by 2%, reaching 41.6 billion tons. The aviation and shipping sectors show a worrying 8% rise! 🌍 In light of this, the urgency is to rapidly strengthen decarbonization strategies for businesses and states. 🌍 NDC: 2025, geopolitics reshuffles the cards! Between China’s acceleration, America’s backpedaling, and Europe’s ambitions hindered by budgetary realities, the global green transition is fragmenting. Nevertheless, several countries have raised their climate targets. 👉 Discover the full analysis and action plans in our latest blog post: https://lnkd.in/efTT3UR7
