    Nearly one month after the Accor Design Awards x Novotel Hotels at MAISON&OBJET in Paris, the projects from this year’s students are still resonating with us. We asked them to reimagine a Novotel room that could protect our oceans while enriching the guest experience. What they delivered was more than design concepts: it was proof that creativity, when guided by purpose, can unlock solutions to some of the most pressing challenges of our time. Congratulations to the winners from L'École de design Nantes Atlantique and IED Madrid, and to every student whose work showed us what sustainable hospitality can look like in the future. This initiative is deeply aligned with Novotel’s own journey. Since our founding in 1967, we have consistently embraced innovation, with sustainability as a constant thread in our evolution. Today, that commitment continues through our partnership with WWF-France, our shift towards plant-forward menus, and our ambition to lead Accor’s sustainability roadmap. What we witnessed through the Accor Design Awards x Novotel was a powerful reminder that the future of hospitality lies in the hands of those who design with both people and planet in mind.     Every stay leaves an impact: on our guests, our communities, and our planet. This World Tourism Day, with "Tourism and Sustainable Transformation" as the theme, we’re spotlighting how that impact can be shaped for the better, locally and globally. In the UAE, Novotel Deira and Novotel Suites Mall Avenue launched #NOVO25, a year-long initiative weaving sustainability into daily operations and guest experiences. Recognised earlier this year as "CSR Initiative of the Year" at the Hotelier Middle East Awards 2025, it shows how sustainability and hospitality can move forward together. 🏆✨ #NOVO25 in action: 🌿 Sustainability in practice: from reducing food waste with AI systems like Winnow to composting initiatives that give food scraps a second life. 🎨 Culture with purpose: the Balance the Ocean art exhibition, showcasing local artists while inspiring reflection on ocean preservation. 🌊 Community-driven action: a partnership with FREESTYLE DIVERS’ Project REEFrame, restoring and protecting coral reef ecosystems along the UAE coastline. 👩🎓 Raising awareness: hosting young sustainability champions for field trips, connecting classroom learning with real-world environmental action. The work of these hotels is also part of a bigger journey: Novotel’s global commitment to the oceans.     Novotel x WWF France: where partnership meets purpose on board the Blue Panda. 🌊 On September 5, members of ALL Accor joined WWF experts for a unique day at sea, diving into WWF-France's Oceans strategy and witnessing conservation challenges up close. Since 2019, the Blue Panda has been sailing the Mediterranean, a biodiversity hotspot that shelters 10% of the world’s species yet faces urgent threats from plastic waste and climate change. Through our partnership with WWF-France, Novotel is funding projects that protect our oceans where it matters most: creating educational marine areas, hosting community nature outings, empowering youth ambassadors, advancing cetacean research in the Pelagos Sanctuary, and running national campaigns to protect Posidonia. The commitment doesn’t stop offshore. In our hotels across the globe, change is already happening: ✅ 39% of Novotel hotels now dedicate at least 25% of their menus to plant-based options ✅ 350+ endangered fish and seafood species to be removed from menus by 2027 ✅ WWF Sustainable Seafood Training and Novotel Ocean Awareness Training launching in 2025 ✅ 67% of Novotel hotels already eco-certified or on their way ✅ 80% have cut out 56+ single-use plastic items And it doesn’t stop with us.     Designing tomorrow’s stays, with purpose. 🌍🌊 At Novotel, innovation has been part of our story since the 1960s, not just in how our hotels look and feel, but in how they respond to the world around us. Today, that spirit lives on through our commitment to sustainability and ocean preservation, in partnership with WWF-France. Last week at MAISON&OBJET in Paris, we proudly unveiled the winners of the 2025 Accor Design Awards, where interior design students from around the world reimagined the Novotel guestroom of tomorrow – a space that enhances comfort while lowering environmental impact and protecting the oceans. The ceremony opened with inspiring words from our Head Judges Isabel Blanco and Beatriz Blanco Rico of BURONDO Design Studio, alongside Bittor SANCHEZ MONASTERIO, Global VP Design, Midscale & Economy Brands at Accor; Damien Perrot, Global Chief Design, Technical Services & Innovation Officer, Premium, Midscale & Economy Brands at Accor; Jean-Yves MINET, Global Brand President, Midscale & Economy Brands at Accor; Aurélie Pontal, Head of Partnerships at WWF-France; as well as representatives from our valued sponsors.     Accor Design Awards 2025: Designing the Future of Sustainable Hospitality For its 9th edition, the Accor Design Awards challenged emerging design talents from across the globe to reimagine the "Novotel bedroom of tomorrow", one that enhances guest experience while delivering a measurable positive impact on our oceans. 🌊 Inspired by purpose: rooted in Accor and Novotel Hotels's commitment to innovation and sustainability, the brief drew on Novotel’s three-year partnership with WWF-France to protect and restore the world’s oceans. 💡 The response was inspiring: with 100 entries from 20 schools across 11 countries, students offered bold, future-forward concepts that merged sustainability, comfort, and creativity, showing how design can be both visionary and responsible. 🏆 Now the spotlight turns to the final stage: the winners will be revealed on September 4th at MAISON&OBJET, in the presence of an international jury including Isabel and Beatriz Blanco of BURONDO Design Studio; Damien Perrot, Global Chief Design, Technical Services & Innovation Officer, Premium, Midscale & Economy brands at Accor; Jean-Yves MINET, Global Brand President, Midscale & Economy Brands at Accor; Aurélie Pontal, Head of Partnerships at WWF France; and representatives from our sponsors.     🐢🌊 We believe that protecting marine life is not an option. It's a responsibility. Sea turtles are among the most endangered marine species. One major threat? Accidental capture in tropical shrimp fishing nets. There is a solution: Turtle Excluder Devices (TEDs), a simple trap door installed in nets that lets turtles escape while keeping the shrimp catch. They can save up to 97% of captured turtles, a small change with a big impact.
