🚀 45% and rising: A decade of wage digitalization globally The Global Findex 2025 data shows that nearly half of all private sector wages in low- and middle-income economies are now paid digitally, up from just 28% in 2014. For millions of workers in the garment, footwear and home textiles sectors and beyond, this means gaining access to formal financial services for the first time, with transformative results. RISE is proud to have contributed to this shift through our Financial Health work and our partnership with Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth. In #Cambodia, we’ve documented significant changes in how workers manage their money, following wage digitalization and participation in RISE Financial Health programs: ✅ 96% of workers now prefer digital over cash payments ✅ 54 percentage point increase in mobile money usage ✅ 38 percentage point increase in women saving regularly ✅ 25 percentage point increase in women reporting confidence to manage financial emergencies What's next? Wage digitalization provides a critical foundation for longer-term financial resilience. Continued collaboration between the garment and footwear industry, financial services, and the public sector will support low-income workers’ access to insurance, responsible credit, and investment products, enabling families to build financial resilience and strengthen local economies. This is a transformation that RISE looks forward to being part of. When Mohammad,* a factory supervisor in Bangladesh, changed how he communicates with his team of 100 after participating in the RISE Respect program, the results were meaningful. “I used to shout because I thought it was required to get my job done. The RISE Respect training made me realize that there are more effective ways to communicate. I now respectfully and calmly explain to my team the importance of not making mistakes. As a result, unauthorized absenteeism has been reduced significantly. The team’s efficiency has increased as I can outline expectations properly. I achieve my target faster and go home by 7 p.m. instead of late at night.” The results of Mohammad changing his management style: unauthorized absenteeism in his team decreased by 75%, and the workers have become more efficient. This isn't an isolated success. Across six completed programs in #Bangladesh, we've seen: - 38 percentage point increase in workers being more confident in communicating with managers - 40 percentage point increase in women workers saying they are productive and motivated at work. In times of uncertainty, stories like Mohammad’s show how collaboration between factories, workers, buyers and RISE can strengthen the industry. Ready to create safer, more respectful workplaces for all? Send us a message on LinkedIn. Our Respect programs are currently active in Bangladesh, Guatemala, India, and Vietnam. *Name changed. From the inaugural SXSW to London Climate Action Week, this June, RISE has been involved in critical conversations shaping the future of work in garment, footwear, and textile supply chains—driving collaborative solutions that respond to the urgent challenges workers face. 🌍 The reality for #GarmentWorkers: In #Bangladesh, up to 60% of garment jobs could be at risk due to automation and AI. In #Cambodia, workers endured 64 days above 35°C last year, making it difficult for them to work, sleep, and stay healthy. Rising food prices, lost income, and mounting healthcare costs are becoming the norm for millions of workers, especially women.   🤝 Building solutions together: At #SXSW's "Work that Works for Everyone" panel with Humanity Insured, Mastercard, and Global Change Network, our Executive Director, Christine Svarer, and fellow panellists explored how climate shocks and automation are reshaping global supply chains. Without plans that include workers, these transitions risk deepening inequality. During #LondonClimateActionWeek, our RISE-Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth roundtable “Weaving the Future Together: How Can Private Sector Collaboration Support Low-Income Workers’ Climate Resilience?” brought together global buyers, financial service providers, and funders to tackle these challenges head-on. Together, we shared real-life experiences from women in Bangladesh and Cambodia managing floods and heat and discussed practical ways to build resilience and reduce risk.  💡 Innovation in financial products and insurance offers solutions: The conversations around parametric insurance have been particularly exciting—from Aon to Howden, we're seeing how the #Insurance industry supports informal workers with quick payouts triggered by heat or floods, paid directly into financial accounts. This is exactly the kind of cross-sector partnership we need: the garment industry, financial services, insurance, tech companies, and NGOs working together.  🚀 What comes next: We're thrilled to explore these innovative insurance solutions with Mastercard, Humanity Insured and others for garment workers. Because when heat or floods hit, workers need immediate support, not lengthy claim processes.  Watch this space for our upcoming report on how to address the impact of climate change on workers and business resilience.   #WhenWomenRISE #ClimateResilience #GarmentSector #FinancialInclusion

To kick off London Climate Action Week, RISE and Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth are convening a roundtable of financial service providers, global buyers and other key stakeholders to discuss how private-sector collaboration can support low-income workers' climate resilience. https://lnkd.in/dkPuf_sf The challenge is urgent. Intensification of extreme weather events combined with weak social protection threatens the livelihoods and financial health of garment workers, especially women, in countries such as #Bangladesh and #Cambodia. Rising food prices, lost income, mounting healthcare costs, and depleted savings are becoming the norm. The business risks are clear too: rising absenteeism, declining productivity, and higher staff turnover. It all hits the bottom line. But there's also a clear opportunity. Financial service providers and global buyers can team up to design scalable, worker-informed digital financial solutions, including remittances, savings and insurance. These tools don't just boost workers' financial resilience – they also drive greater efficiency and stability across global supply chains. #ClimateResilience #FinancialInclusion #SupplyChain #LondonClimateActionWeek #WhenWomenRISE

What policies can best support women workers' career advancement? Our latest research in India and Bangladesh showed parental leave and childcare support were game-changers. This is where worker voices and global research converge – what women workers told us matches what McKinsey & Company's data shows in their new "Women in the Workplace" report. These policies lead to higher promotion rates for women and help reduce costly staff turnover. Ready to turn this insight into action? Join our webinar happening today at 1 pm BST. We've gathered a panel of industry experts who will share practical approaches to women workers' career advancement in garment, footwear, and textile supply chains. Quality Control line leader Khanara, like many women and men in the Cambodian garment industry, needs to send remittances to her family on a regular basis. Until recently, this meant going to the market after work to find an agent to make the transfer, but since taking part in RISE Financial Health, Khanara has built her confidence and skills to make digital payments through her mobile phone.      “When my family needs money urgently, I can transfer it quickly. I also use my account to top up my phone airtime – this is helpful as the factory is far away [from my family]. I want to save money through the app so that when I am older, I can buy a house or set up my own business.”   Khanara is a RISE Financial Health peer educator, and shares her financial and digital skills with her colleagues. “I explain to them that they should not trust anybody with their password. I advise them on what to do if they have issues accessing their account.”   Since 2018, RISE and Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth have partnered to scale wage digitalization and improve workers’ financial health in the garment, footwear, and home textiles industries, helping thousands of workers like Khanara to become financially included and improve their financial health.   #WhenWomenRISE #InternationalDayOfFamilyRemittances #FinancialHealth #Cambodia #FinancingForDevelopment #IDFR2025
