Solar PV is reshaping global energy systems. REN21’s latest Solar PV Factsheet shows why this powerful technology is the engine of the renewable energy transition. 📊 Key facts for 2024: ☀️ Global solar PV capacity grew 37% in just one year. ☀️ The world surpassed 2 terawatts of installed capacity by end-2024 — doubling in only 24 months. ☀️ China led the surge, driving 60% of new additions and nearly two-thirds of global solar jobs. ☀️ Pakistan emerged as a new solar leader, while policy uncertainty now clouds the U.S. market. Not only is solar is transforming the grid, but it is helping to shape strong, resilient renewables-based economies and societies worldwide.   ➡️ Check out our latest factsheet to learn more — https://lnkd.in/dv-XCdjG 📽️ Jad Baba - REN21 Knowledge & Data, Rochelle Gluzman REN21 Communications #SolarPV #SolarIsSoaring #RenewableEnergy #GSR2025

🚦 Out now! REN21 collaborated with SLOCAT Partnership on Sustainable, Low Carbon Transport on the new Transport Energy Sources chapter of the GSR4, developed by members of our Knowledge and Data team: Janne Luise Piper, Jad Baba and Jiayi WANG. This chapter explores transport energy demand, use and access, and sustainability, policy and investment trends — shedding light on how the transport sector is evolving and where change is urgently needed. Key takeaways: 🚗 Transport energy demand keeps rising — up 20% between 2010 and 2023, now accounting for 21.9% of global CO₂ emissions. ⚡ Renewables remain marginal — just 4.6% of transport energy in 2023, with fossil oil still at 90%. ✈️🚢 Innovation is emerging — battery-electric ships and test flights mark early progress, but aviation and shipping still contribute ~11% of transport GHG emissions. 💚 Renewables in transport improve health and climate — by 2028, renewable electricity and biofuels could cut transport oil demand by 4 million barrels per day. 🎯 Policy ambition lags — of 89 countries with renewable targets, only 23 include transport-specific goals. "It was great to work with SLOCAT on this chapter. We are excited to drive the transition to a sustainable, renewables-based transport system, accelerating decarbonisation, strengthening energy security and supporting more resilient and equitable transport globally." said Janne Luise Piper. 👉 Dive into the data and insights here: https://lnkd.in/eNVZZmFS #RenewablesNow #GSR4 #Transport #EnergyTransition

🚨Publication Alert ! 🚨 - New chapters of GSR4 are available Fresh from the oven! Don’t miss out the new chapters of the Transport, Climate and Sustainability Global Status Report – 4th edition (GSR4). In 2008, Uruguay was heavily reliant on fossil fuel imports and - as the global price of oil rose - struggling to meet the energy demands of its burgeoning middle class. Today, it’s a global leader in #renewables, meeting 98% of its electricity needs from renewable sources. So how did it achieve such a staggering transformation? First, the government took a bold step: #Uruguay appointed a physicist called Ramón Méndez Galain as energy secretary. Galain oversaw a programme of strong investment, public-private partnerships and a focus on a just transition, which saw 50,000 jobs created amid retraining schemes for fossil-fuel workers. And the kicker? Uruguay’s energy costs actually went down in the process. Latin America and the Caribbean have some of the world’s most favourable conditions for clean energy leadership, but progress remains uneven and lags behind the pace of global change. The World Economic Forum’s Energy Transition Readiness Assessment (ETRA), developed with OLADE - Organización Latinoamericana de Energía and Accenture, provides a framework to track progress towards 4 strategic goals for the region: secure, resilient and integrated systems; diversified, low-carbon energy mix;  future-proof industrial ecosystems; and improved efficiency and productivity. New data from Ember reveals a clear divide in the first half of 2025.   📈 China and India cut fossil generation – thanks to record growth in solar and wind. In India, a milder summer also slowed electricity demand growth, further reducing the need for fossil fuels.   📉 The United States and the EU increased fossil generation – but for different reasons. In the US, falling gas was replaced by coal amid slow wind growth. In the EU, weak wind and hydro output forced fossil plants back online. What does this tell us? ✅ When deployed at scale, renewables do displace fossil fuels. ⚠️ But without diversified and resilient renewables supply, countries risk sliding back into fossil reliance when conditions change. To achieve a renewables-based economy for prosperous societies, we must build energy systems that are reliable, renewable and resilient everywhere. 📊 Dive deeper into the latest trends (link in comments): 🔹 Ember’s new report   🔹 REN21’s latest factsheets on renewable energy sectors and technologies
