Today, at the CSA webinar “Towards a Global Brain Health Data Space”, Philippe Vernier, Joint-CEO of EBRAINS, joined the panel discussion “Regional Needs and Priorities – Global Perspectives”, moderated by Frédéric Destrebecq from the European Brain Council (EBC). The debate covered regional and national needs and priorities, as well as views on the current opportunities and challenges within regional research and digital infrastructures. During the discussion, Prof. Vernier emphasised the importance of digital research infrastructures in advancing global brain health research, and highlighted EBRAINS’ key role in the neuroscience field. He stressed that EBRAINS serves as an open access, user-driven infrastructure, gathering and structuring complex brain data to make it accessible and useful for researchers worldwide. He further noted that data repository, data curation, and help for complying with the regulation are areas needing improvement and stronger governmental support. These perspectives align closely with the objectives of the European Health Data Space (EHDS) Regulation, which aims to establish a common framework for the use and exchange of electronic health data across the EU to support healthcare, research, and innovation, while enhancing individuals’ access to and control of their personal electronic health data. EBRAINS is a key player in the realisation of the EHDS and the advancement of global brain health research.
