Article: The Not Yet so Notorious ESG...

In today's rapidly evolving business landscape, Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations have transitioned from peripheral concerns to central pillars of corporate strategy. There is a growing body of knowledge, practicing professionals, legislation and compliance that comes with this.

However, while ESG is gaining traction, its full impact remains largely misunderstood, inconsistently applied, and plagued by a lack of universal trust across global markets. The current volatility in politics also makes aspects of ESG sub domains hard to tackle. For organizations, the challenge is not just compliance but navigating an evolving regulatory landscape while driving meaningful and scalable ESG developments across different regions globally.

For those who manage change, there are new types of challenge arising that don't always fit traditional methods of change management and there is certainly a new area of expertise we need to be aware of in order to support organisations. But the invitation of ESG doesn't stop there, we shouldn't lose sight of the end goal which is societal change brought about in part by shifts in the way organisations drive business. The emerging change for humanity is so essential in this day-and-age and one humankind is completely unequip to deal with.

This article explores the what, why, and why now of ESG, its implications across industries, the confusion surrounding compliance, and the need for new organizational change models to address the scale and complexity of this transformation. Delving into the essence of ESG, its significance, and the urgency of its adoption, while exploring interconnected topics such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB), climate action, and the broader implications for individuals, organizations, and society.
