Deprecated repo option that makes it obvious the repo has been deprecated

We're never going to delete our deprecated repos, but putting a line in the readme, no matter how big the text is, is going to be ignored by users.

I would like a standard way to mark a repo as deprecated. It would change the icon or text in the list of repos (strikeout?), and maybe a "deprecated" background image.

The readme could be used to point to the replacement or have an explanation.

For example, which repos within each of these orgs are still in use, and which are deprecated?

This is a good idea and I would use the feature. It would also come in handy when using the recently added public_repositories variable in GitHub Pages. It's nice to be able to loop through the list on a brag page -- but it would be even better if you could filter that list down to the open-source projects you're most proud of and continue to support.

My solution was to clear out the repo and update the README.md to point to the new repo then, after some time passed, deleted the original repo. I would have rather kept it around in the rare event I needed it so some sort of archive would be awesome.

I'm amazed this doesn't already exist. Would be great to keep my old projects on display for legacy support while letting people know they were in fact legacy products.
