Microsoft Build was packed with rockstars (Sam! Elon! Jensen!) and awesome tech—but Multi-Agent Orchestration is maybe the best thing I've seen on visualizing the near-future of work. Here’s what to know: How agents work together blows my mind - this is what a companion tool looks like, a kind of digital team that individuals will learn to adapt to in order to dramatically accelerate work. It's also why upskilling in genAI across the organization is *critical*, people. (More on that below.) +++++++++++++++++++ MULTI-AGENT ORCHESTRATION Okay, so what is this? Multiple specialized AI agents can work together on tasks that cross departments or tools. Imagine an HR example: In this one demo, an onboarding process was handled by several agents: one managed HR paperwork, another set up IT accounts, and a third scheduled training sessions. Each agent handled its part and reported back, with the system summarizing the results for the user. Or in sales: One agent pulls CRM data, another drafts a proposal, and a third schedules follow-ups in Outlook. All this coordination stuff happens behind the scenes, but the user gets a single, clear summary. +++++++++++++++++++ THE OPEN AGENT ECOSYSTEM: Microsoft is moving toward what they’re calling an “open agent ecosystem,” which is absolutely the way forward. Here's what that means: Open Standards: Microsoft, like others, is backing protocols like the Model Context Protocol (MCP), which is all the rage. MCP lets agents securely access data and services across platforms. Basically it makes it easier for agents from different companies or tools to work together. NLWeb: They introduced NLWeb, a project that helps websites become accessible to AI agents via natural language. The idea is that this will make the web “agent-friendly,” so agents can interact with sites as easily as browsers do with HTML. The goal is to create a more open, connected environment where agents can collaborate and interact freely across the web and different apps—no matter who built them or where they run. That’s the future. It’s coming soon. And I think Microsoft is in a tremendous position here. +++++++++++++++++ UPSKILL YOUR ORGANIZATION: When your organization is ready to create an AI-powered culture—not just add tools—AI Mindset would love to help. We drive behavioral transformation at scale through a powerful new digital course and enterprise partnership. DM me, or check out our website.
