【Exchange with LegCo】Cyberport Welcomed Subcommittee on Issues Relating to the Development of Web3 and Virtual Assets to Visit Our Campus
Members of the Legislative Council (LegCo) Subcommittee on Issues Relating to the Development of Web3 and Virtual Assets (LegCo Subcommittee) visited Cyberport yesterday (12 November) to learn about Cyberport's latest developments and future directions in promoting Web3.0. Ms Lillian Cheong, JP, Under Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry and Mr Daniel Cheung, JP, Deputy Commissioner (Digital Infrastructure) of Digital Policy Office also joined the visit tour.
Ir Eric Chan, Chief Public Mission Officer of Cyberport, delivered a welcome speech and introduced Cyberport’s work and the development of Web3.0 ecosystem in Hong Kong. Ms Rachel Lee, Director of Web3 and FinTech Development of Cyberport, then led a tour at Web3 Living Lab to introduce eight Web 3.0 showcases at the Lab and the applications of Web3.0 applications developed by Cyberport community companies throughout the world including the U.S., Africa, Europe, Korea and Singapore.
Subsequently, Ms Georgina Chu, Chief Corporate Development Officer of Cyberport, moderated a discussion, together with representatives from two Cyberport unicorns -HashKey Group and CertiK – and three Cyberport community companies - Artifact Labs, Traditionow and Regtitude Limited – exchanged views with the Chairman of the Subcommittee, Dr Hon Johnny Ng, MH, JP, and the eight LegCo members on issues including facilitating investment matching, cybersecurity and the application of blockchain-based system, so as to gain LegCo members further insights into the challenges faced by I&T companies.
Cyberport was allocated $50 million in 2023 by the HKSAR Government to expedite the development of the local Web3.0 ecosystem and established a "Web3.0 Investors Circle (W3IC)" to facilitate Web3.0-related investment. We will continue to make good use of the resources to attract more high-quality enterprises and talents to locate in Hong Kong and enable Hong Kong to develop into a Web3.0 hub.
