It was great to participate in World Retail Congress again this year and see so many clients and contacts there. The event continues to go from strength to strength and congratulations to Ian McGarrigle and Hanna Jackson on getting such a terrific line-up together. Alongside my colleague Sonia Abrahams, I presented some exclusive Brunswick Group research on consumers' perceptions of AI in Retail. We know this was highly topical even before the event but having heard AI as a major focus of almost every session during the Congress, it felt very timely to be able to present insights on what the most important person in the retail process - the customer - feels about the use of AI in retail. The good news is that done right, using AI in your engagements with customers can really benefit a brand and position it as forward-looking and customer-focused. Customers recognise that AI has the potential to deliver a more convenient and personalised shopping experience. But there are reputational risks too - customers still want the option to engage with humans, and are concerned about privacy and how their data will be used. They worry that AI will be used as a tool to reduce human interactions and cut customer-facing jobs. The attached one-pager gives a brief summary of the research and do let me know if you're interested in finding out more.

Since 2021, Brunswick Group’s Energy Transition Tracker has given us a view on how the #energytransition is playing out, and on how informed financial and business audiences appraise energy types and technologies. The 2025 Tracker, out this month, aggregates the views of 900 key opinion leaders from the US, the UK and the UAE. There are five insights worth highlighting: 1. A return to energy realism: There is a consensus for energy realism, with improving investor sentiment towards hydrocarbons, concerns about the deliverability of electrification. 2. Cost is king again: Stakeholders are worried about high energy costs; how to bring them down will govern continued progress 3. Trade-offs are getting real: Across the US, UAE and UK, security and affordability top the "trilemma" podium with sustainability seen as the lowest priority 4. Investors favour proven technologies: Storage, energy efficiency and solar are safe bets versus carbon capture and DAC which are seen as higher risk 5. From transition to transitions? Divergence between markets and regional considerations will become increasingly important. There is plenty to unpack in the data, and many implications for businesses, we’d be pleased to discuss it with you. If you want to discuss it more, please reach out to me, William Medvei or Charles Malissard

We are delighted to welcome Paul Csiszár to Brunswick as a Senior Advisor in our established global and senior competition and antitrust team which advises on challenging matters in all leading regulatory centres. Paul brings more than 40 years’ experience of corporate, M&A, competition and antitrust law as a regulator and in private practice. Most recently, from 2006 until his retirement in May 2024, he was Director of Basic Industries, Manufacturing and Agriculture at the Directorate General for Competition of the European Commission. Following his admission to the California Bar in 1986 he practiced as a corporate, securities and M&A lawyer in the US and then from 1997 in Central Europe with the international law firm of Squire Sanders until 2003 when he joined the public sector. Paul’s deep knowledge of global regulatory affairs will be invaluable as Brunswick’s clients seek to navigate the rapidly shifting regulatory environment. Paul’s activities will be carried out in adherence with the obligations applicable to former officials based on the European Commission Staff Regulations and the rules of professional conduct of the legal bar.

Poker isn't just a game—it’s a powerful tool for building confidence, strategic thinking, and risk management. Much like in a boardroom, poker teaches you how to take calculated risks, stand your ground, bluff when necessary, and strategize your way to success. ♥️ ♣️♦️♠️ In partnership with POLITICO, we recently convened a community of Washington DC's women leaders in business policy, government relations, law, and communications for cocktails and a lesson from the coaches at Poker Power on how the skills poker can translate to the business world. Thank you to everyone who joined for an enjoyable, fun-filled evening, and our hosts at Brunswick DC & POLITICO. As part of Brunswick Group’s partnership with Georgetown University’s Institute of Politics and Public Service, we were proud to co-host an engaging conversation on the future of American trade policy. Ambassador Robert Lighthizer, former U.S. Trade Representative and a chief architect of President Trump’s trade agenda, joined Brunswick Senior Advisor Christopher Padilla for a timely and wide-ranging discussion on the motivations behind the administration’s tariff strategy, its global ripple effects, and what it may signal for the next phase of U.S. trade policy. This event marked the fifth and final installment in our partnership series, which brought together top political voices including Chris LaCivita, Senior Advisor to President Trump’s 2024 campaign; Jen O’Malley Dillon, Chair of former Vice President Kamala Harris’ 2024 campaign; Former U.S. Senator Doug Jones; and Jonathan Swan, national political reporter at The New York Times. We’re grateful to Mo Elleithee and the team at GU Politics for their collaboration throughout this insightful and timely series. #GUPolitics
