Today, the HKMA and the Treasury Markets Association (TMA) co-organised the Treasury Markets Summit 2025 in Hong Kong. The event was attended by more than 300 participants from banks, financial institutions, and asset management firms. In his keynote speech, Eddie Yue, Chief Executive of the HKMA and Honorary President of the TMA Council, discussed the opportunities that lie ahead for the further development of renminbi business in the city. Darryl Chan, Deputy Chief Executive of the HKMA and Chair of the TMA Executive Board, also offered a look back at the evolution of Hong Kong’s treasury markets and TMA’s key achievements over the past two decades.  The Summit’s panels covered three important topics, including the latest financial world order, Hong Kong as a hub of corporate treasury centres, and the changes brought by artificial intelligence to treasury markets. Attending HKMA executives and other distinguished guest speakers discussed both opportunities and challenges facing the industry, emphasising the importance of adaptability and forward-thinking solutions.   Looking ahead, collaboration and innovation are key to shaping the future of Hong Kong’s treasury markets. At the Wealth Management Institute (WMI)'s Global-Asia Family Office Summit last month, WMI Chairman and GIC CEO Chow Kiat Lim shared the key principles for stewarding capital across generations, including clarity of purpose, diversification, granularity, agility, and robust partnerships. We are proud to have supported CITIC Securities International Capital Management, Eastfort Asset Management, GF Global Capital and Huatai International Financial Holdings Company Limited with their first cross-currency repurchase agreements (repo) using Northbound Bond Connect holdings as collateral. We have also helped our clients to reuse the bond collaterals during the repo period. We support the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA)’s efforts to improve the market-based mechanism for offshore RMB liquidity management, fostering investor participation. These enhancements follow the HKMA's introduction of allowing Northbound Bond Connect participants to use eligible onshore bonds as collateral to conduct RMB repo business in February this year.
