We have also helped our clients to reuse the bond collaterals during the repo period. We support the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA)’s efforts to improve the market-based mechanism for offshore RMB liquidity management, fostering investor participation. These enhancements follow the HKMA's introduction of allowing Northbound Bond Connect participants to use eligible onshore bonds as collateral to conduct RMB repo business in February this year. Today, the HKMA and the Treasury Markets Association (TMA) co-organised the Treasury Markets Summit 2025 in Hong Kong. The event was attended by more than 300 participants from banks, financial institutions, and asset management firms. In his keynote speech, Eddie Yue, Chief Executive of the HKMA and Honorary President of the TMA Council, discussed the opportunities that lie ahead for the further development of renminbi business in the city. Darryl Chan, Deputy Chief Executive of the HKMA and Chair of the TMA Executive Board, also offered a look back at the evolution of Hong Kong’s treasury markets and TMA’s key achievements over the past two decades.  The Summit’s panels covered three important topics, including the latest financial world order, Hong Kong as a hub of corporate treasury centres, and the changes brought by artificial intelligence to treasury markets. Attending HKMA executives and other distinguished guest speakers discussed both opportunities and challenges facing the industry, emphasising the importance of adaptability and forward-thinking solutions.   Looking ahead, collaboration and innovation are key to shaping the future of Hong Kong’s treasury markets. The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) appointed on July 21 the first batch of fund managers under its $5 billion Equity Market Development Programme (EQDP): Avanda Investment Management, Fullerton Fund Management and JP Morgan Asset Management. The announcement came earlier than expected, says Maybank Securities’ head of research Thilan Wickramasinghe, and two of the three appointees — Avanda and Fullerton — are linked to Singaporean state-owned investors GIC and Temasek. In a July 21 note, Wickramasinghe says this shows a whole-of-government commitment towards reform. “These appointees also signal a focus on raising market liquidity, especially for small- and mid-caps.” #investing #markets #SGX #equities #MAS #maybank

Vietnam’s next chapter begins. FTSE Russell, An LSEG Business, has reclassified Vietnam from Frontier to Emerging Market status, a milestone that goes beyond index mechanics and reflects a structural transformation. As Minh Dang, Head of Research at Dragon Capital, noted, this milestone reflects “decisive and coordinated reforms” across Vietnam’s regulatory and market infrastructure. Two decrees, four circulars, and one amended law have strengthened the legal framework, aligned it with international standards, and laid the groundwork for sustained institutional participation. This achievement also sets the stage for what is to come next. Under new leadership, Vietnam has articulated an ambition to achieve FTSE Advanced and MSCI Emerging Market status by 2030 - a roadmap that prioritizes modernization, deeper liquidity, and more inclusive capital markets.
