ESB Networks was delighted to attend and participate at the Business Post, Energy Transition Summit 2025 in Croke Park this week. Alan Rossiter, Head of Strategy & Network Development, ESB Networks was interviewed by Ivan Yates and discussed ESB Network's PR6 business plan which lays out a €13.4 billion investment programme for the electricity network between 2025 and 2030, critical to meeting national policy objectives relating to housing, economic growth, and climate action. Lindsay Sharpe, Customer & Strategy Manager, ESB Networks joined a panel, contributing to a discussion on the potential of empowering the consumer in shaping a more reliable, efficient, and sustainable energy future and how flexibility is both vital in addressing growth in demand while balancing affordability for customers. She was joined by Daniel Murray, Policy Editor, Business Post, Deirdre de Bhailís, General Manager, Dingle Hub and Jonathan Sandham, Managing Director, DCSix Technologies. A subsidiary within ESB Group, we are ESB Networks. We are the licensed operators of the electricity distribution system in the Republic of Ireland, this includes all distribution stations, overhead electricity lines, poles and underground cables. We are responsible for building, operating and maintaining these to serve all 2.3 million electricity customers across the country safely and efficiently. We facilitate the competitive electricity market. As meter operator, we install, maintain and read the meters of all electricity customers and provide this information to suppliers. We have invested over six billion euro in the electricity network over the last 10 years to ensure that it is reliable and enables communities and businesses in Ireland to grow and develop. ESB Networks was delighted to attend and participate at the Solar Ireland Annual Conference 2025 in the RDS on Thursday Oct 2nd. Teams from Renewables and Major Connections, Regulation & Commercial, and Network Development engaged with stakeholders to discuss the conference theme of ‘Advancing Towards Net Zero’ and the growing potential of solar energy in Ireland. The Solar Ireland team, including Ronan Power, CEO, Priscila McGeehan, Director of Communications & Strategy, Dr. Eva Barrett, Director of Policy and Regulation and Dr. Maria Hallinan, Policy Manager were all welcomed to the stand. As well as Darragh O’Brien TD, Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment; Minister for Transport, Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment & Department of Transport, who was greeted by Ray Dorney, Network Development Manager North, Michael Quirke, Generation Connection Policy Manager, John Emerson, Small Scale Generation Manager & Geraldine Dunphy, Major Customer Experience Manager. In our Networks for Net Zero Strategy, ESB Networks has committed to delivering a net zero ready electricity distribution network by 2040, to enable Ireland to achieve its net zero target by 2050. A key action in our Strategy is to publish a Ten-Year Distribution Network Development Plan (DNDP) as required under the Clean Energy Package Directive (EU) 2019/944. With this nationwide deployment, the infrastructure is now in place for more customers to take advantage of all the benefits that smart technology has to offer. This includes allowing customers to see detailed information and insights into their energy use directly through the ESB Networks Online Account. This can help customers use electricity more efficiently, reduce consumption and to choose a suitable smart meter tariff from suppliers.
