FactoryXChange was delighted to join Minister Niamh Smyth, Ciaran Galligan, and the Bailieborough Development Association for last weeks Digital Awareness Event in Co. Cavan. The session brought together local business owners and national support networks to explore how SMEs can take the next step in their digital journey — whether that’s adopting new technologies, improving productivity, or preparing for AI-driven change. With the National Digital Strategy setting an ambitious goal for 90% of SMEs to reach at least a basic level of digital intensity by 2030, collaboration between Government, enterprise offices, and initiatives like FactoryXChange is key. Together, we can ensure that every business — regardless of size or sector — can access the expertise, tools, and funding available to them. How does a pre-revenue SME with a bold idea go from paper to possibility? Between July and December 2024, FactoryXChange worked with Avoca Seafood, an Irish start-up with a vision to develop the country’s first Circular Marine Park. At the start, the challenges were familiar: limited digital adoption, manual processes, basic IT infrastructure, and low employee digital confidence. Advanced technologies like AI, IoT, and automation felt a long way off. Through FXC’s support, the company shaped a clear digitalisation plan and a pre-investment case that defined capital requirements, socio-economic opportunities, and sustainability goals. The results? ✔ Streamlined operations through ERP and CRM systems. ✔ Employees upskilled and engaged through training. ✔ A roadmap to integrate AI and automation for growth. ✔ Green ICT practices embedded from the outset.
