🔬 Catalina-2 (ENGOT-ov83), a Phase 2 clinical trial evaluating TORL-1-23, a targeted antibody–drug conjugate directed against CLDN6, has been activated at St James's Hospital Dublin and Mater Misericordiae University Hospital Catalina-2 is a collaborative trial from ENGOT and is sponsored by TORL Biotherapeutics LLC . Ireland is one of four EU countries now open to recruitment. The study will assess the safety, tolerability and efficacy of TORL-1-23 in women with platinum-resistant ovarian, peritoneal or fallopian-tube cancer whose tumours express CLDN6. Led by Professor Austin Duffy (National Lead Investigator) and Professor Karen Cadoo (Principal Investigator, St James’s Hospital), this activation represents the collaborative effort of hospitals, investigators and research teams working together to bring innovative trials to patients in Ireland. 👉 Learn more at https://bit.ly/3JlMfeF

About us
Cancer Trials Ireland is a national network dedicated to advancing cancer care through clinical trials, where new treatments and approaches are thoroughly tested. As a cornerstone of Ireland’s cancer research infrastructure, we unite clinical specialists, researchers, and key stakeholders to drive evidence-based improvements in cancer outcomes. Our organisation comprises nearly all cancer-treating specialists in Ireland, collaborating through eight Cancer Clinical Trials Groups and 18 hospital-based Cancer Trials Units (CTUs) nationwide. Supported by a central team of clinical researchers, project managers, and data experts, our trials are crucial for developing new treatments that enhance patient care. In addition to sponsoring our own academic trials, we work with international research groups and pharmaceutical companies, which brings substantial investment and innovative therapies to Irish patients. In Ireland, one in two people will face a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. However, thanks to decades of research and clinical trials, many of these diagnoses now have effective treatments, with over 60% of patients surviving at least five years, and many being cured. Today, more than 200,000 people in Ireland have survived a cancer diagnosis. Despite this progress, the National Cancer Registry of Ireland (NCRI) reports that nearly 25,000 people are diagnosed with cancer annually, a number expected to double as our population ages. The 2017 National Cancer Strategy emphasises the critical role of research and trials, aiming to double patient participation in drug trials. While only about 2% of Irish patients were on clinical trials in 2021, Cancer Trials Ireland has made significant strides, with a 27.5% increase in patient participation in all trials in 2023 compared to the previous year. This new editorial in Supportive Care in Cancer by Siobhán Gaynor, patient advocate, and Professor Seamus O’Reilly, Clinical Lead at Cancer Trials Ireland, with co-author Dr Erica Mayer, calls for a stronger focus on quality of life and the patient perspective when assessing cancer therapies. The piece builds on the Metastatic Breast Cancer Survey led by Siobhán in 2023 - a project that continues to shape how patient experience informs cancer research and care. 🔗 Read the article: https://bit.ly/43rtcGH #CancerTrialsIreland #PatientVoice #MetastaticBreastCancer #QualityOfLife #CancerResearch

Great to meet with Dr Marleen Kok of The Netherlands Cancer Institute to discuss the upcoming OPTImaL trial, a major international academic study investigating whether chemotherapy can be safely omitted in women with early-stage triple-negative breast cancer who have high tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs). Cancer Trials Ireland is opening the OPTImaL trial in Ireland, with Professor Roisin Connolly Cancer Research @UCC as National Lead Investigator. This study has the potential to spare thousands of women from unnecessary chemotherapy while maintaining excellent survival outcomes - a transformative step in personalised cancer treatment. #ESMO25 #BreastCancer #ClinicalTrials #CancerTrialsIreland #OPTImaL #TripleNegativeBreastCancer #ResearchImpact ESMO - European Society for Medical Oncology
